On my Defender 110 Td5 I have a kind of twist-key slot into which a plastic key must be put before the ignition is mobilised.

I also have a metal loop bolted to the chassis and protuding inside the vehicle, from which a chain can be passed round the steering wheel.

I'm considering buying a "clutch claw" from Noisekiller Co. UK.

How useful, really, are these devices?

What is the surest anti-theft set-up (given that loading the vehicle onto a trailer would by-pass them all)?
 
Owts better than nowt, but if someone really wants it they'll take it. "They" reckon a roof rack is as good as anything so it can't be driven straight into a container for shipping overseas. I was thinking of some way of locking the seat to the steering wheel along the same lines as your metal loop in the floor, and some sort of steel tube that drops over the difflock lever and locks to the gear lever.
 
a hidden fuel on/off valve works for me, along with a batt switch with a removable key - as Grunt says if they really want it they'l have it, i've just tried to make mine difficult to take in the hope that any casual lowlife would give up and go down the road where there's a much nicer loaded 07 110

disc lock seems like quite a good deterant. BIG, vulgar, brash, noisy and awkward to remove legit never mind tryin to remove it criminally! costs 100 squids but well worth it in my opinion
 
i got mine alarmed last week from a place in town centre it cost £200.00 but was worth it top spec scorpion alarm and immobiliser also the alarm has a pager that goes off if any pikey is trying to knick it while your out and about so you can rush back and break there fingers while they are trying to figure out why it will not start and the way i see it last time she got stolen it set me back £200.00 for a new door to replace the one they butchered plus new ignition cowling etc.. the £200. was a small price to pay if any one wants the name and number of the place i got it done at jus let me know i will dig it out

leave yur transfer in neutral, slows um down,:D
 
Fabrice for the burnt flesh smell, it works on the dog smell then it must work for buning flesh. To avoid burnt flesh fit a 12 inch spike on a pendulum that swings down and through the headrest the first time they brake.
Steve at Noisebuster is dead helpful the clutch think got a good review when it first came out. Similarly the guys at mud only seem to sell good stuff and are dead helpful. Personnally a landie thats hard to start is a good deterent and leaving it open with the keys in helps with post theft repairs.
