Defender Alot of rust?

hey lads, just wondering, is this alot of rust? these are all the pics i have atm.

there is also alot of mud, and i checken the car out i scratched the mud away in some places and the chassis had a silvery colour under the mud.

also is the equipe 4x4 stuff good?

Looks like surface rust, good nick. Silver stuff could be galvanizing but hard to say.
Any dull spots when striking with a small hammer? Check all crossmembers especially body supports and outriggers

it all sounded good to me.

crossmembers are the parts that go sideways right? body supports are all good exept 1 and im not sure what you mean with outriggers
 
Yep crossmembers span the width, you'll have 1 under gearbox, maybe 2 between body and chassis particularly rear tub and the rearmost 'bumper'.

Outfitters are the legs that jut out the sides of chassis supporting the body think there's 2 each side
 
The mud will want cleaning out sooner rather than later and treating inside the chassis rails with rustproofer. Loads of threads on this

yes they were all good.

The crossmember is the one at the rear - looks like the rear bumper and runs along the back of the vehicle under. What the tow bar etc attaches to. Look at it from underneath and behind,

im in austria, and the decision has to be rather fast because there are about 15 for sale in the whole country, 10 os those more than 600km away, in my price range with decent condition and miles on the clock.
 
Aah okay. Was going to say if your in the south somewhere you could come look at mine and I would talk you through it.

Just double check all the nooks and crannies but if your that limited you may not have much choice!

ive checked out nearly all in a 150-200km range amd thos is one lf the better ones. im just dont wanna buy a ****box that needs a new chassis in 3 years, im planning to have it as long as possible. its even on the cheaper side for 18k€. the cheaper ones are basically 60% rust and 300k kilometers on the clock. anything else i should look out for?
 
Do a search, on Google if the search isn't working on here. Not much goes wrong with them but good if you spot a couple of known issues that you can haggle price down with.

Check red ecu plug for oil and make sure it starts flick of the key from cold and idles evenly, should be a good un ;)

engine starts up on the first turn basically, also runs very smooth. i didnt check the plug on sunday when i sae the car in person but i can check on friday when i see it on the lift. where is it exactly?

Ecu is under right hand seat as youre in the car. Take red plug out and check for oil contamination its a well known issue the oil comes through the injector harness loom through capillary action causes rough running and all sorts. Honestly do a search there's loads of info out there to help you but pretty much as long as it's solid and engine sweet you ain't gonna go far wrong
 
Bulkhead. Much more difficult to repair weld than say an outrigger .
Footwells fairly easy repair, around the front vents and top hinge not so easy but repair panels are available for most of the rot areas but needs some skill to do a nice repair.
 
If it’s the best one you have seen then it’s the best one you have seen, it’s hard to make a judgement call over the internet.

Sounds like it’s alright though, but inspect it carefully on friday
