Took the drum off this morning. Went for a short drive. Couldnt get the rear prop as tight as it should be so didnt go too far or fast.

The noise remains but again different. It does deffinatley sound like its coming from either the handbrake/rear prop/transfer box.

So today going to take the rear prop off totally see what happens.

Edit -

Couldnt get the rear prop off so i jacked the front up and put it in Diff Lock.

No noise!!! In any of the gears! So it is the handbrake. Which honestly doesnt supprise me as i have driven around with it on rather alot....

Thanks for suggesting that I never would have guessed!

Yeah so i could 'drive' without moving. I wanted to get the rear prop off to check if it was the handbrake drum creating the noise.

I couldnt get the rear prop tight enough on without the drum fitted so i left it disconected and jacked up the front so the front wheels could spin freely.

Went up and back down hrough all the gears three times and the noise has gone. Leading me to believe it is the handbrake drum/innards causing the noise.

Further proof that it is the handbrake/drum is I carefully added copper slip to various areas and sprayed some WD-40 onto some of the moving parts - Not the shoes and the such - The noise is greatly reduced and now far more intermitant.

Yup, thought so.

Hopefully the gearbox will live to fight another day and you won't be making Mr Ashcroft richer just yet.
