Hi, i have a defender 90 with a 2.5 turbo with a top speed of 60mph  however my mates 2.5 turbo can reach 70mph without difficulty. Anyone got any ideas as to why this mite b?

maybe his engine is betterer than your's maybe he looks after it better than you look after yours, maybe you've got half a tonne of slab in the back, maybe his tyres have more air in than yours - but who cares it's not a sports car

Speedo only gives an indicated speed, you may both have the same top speed as each other. Suspect that the margin error on a speedo at that sort of speed is almost identical to the difference you're quoting between the two vehicles. Many other factors would also prevent the two vehicles having identical top speeds, gearbox ratios (someone may have fitted a different box at some point to one of the vehicles), diff ratios, drag coefficient (due to different body configurations), rolling resistance and health of the engine (loss of compression, coked up, worn tappets), binding brakes. Life's too short, I wouldn't worry about it, if you enjoy driving ya landy then job's a good 'un.

My mates 110 2.5TD was doing 85mph easily last week after the exhaust manifold and injectors were replaced...... boooM. 200 miles later it's toast.
Anyone got a 200Tdi disco for sale very cheap? :D

Maybe your mates a better driver then you and has a better vehicle in general?

Well on the grounds that there might be some things you could check out...
Assuming these are not identical machines, you should check that the transfer box in yours is original and not off a Disco as these are higher geared which would probably mean that your motor wouldn't be able to pull the weight / wind resistance at that gearing dropping it's top speed but increasing the economy.
If your mates is similar mileage it won't mean a thing without understanding the service history. Performance will be impacted by turbo pressure, condition of the intake hoses and air filter, cleanliness inside and of the cooling fins of any intercooler fitted, adjustment of the injector pump (CharlseY is an expert), Compression levels, differences in the exhaust system, tyre pressures and most especially things like roof racks which on its own could explain it.

Hope that helps and I'm sure I've forgotten some things so don't think this is a complete list.
