Hi,

I'm umming and arring about changing my defender or not.
One plan is to change it from a pickup to a station wagon.

Has anyone got any experience in this? Looking for pitfalls, things to consider, prices, time etc

It's a 90 so I'm not expecting having to change the rear tub.

Cheers

I would post in the for sale section or ask if anyone wants to swop from the van style to pick up and do a swop

Dont think it will be too much of a job but you may want to check with your insurance

The problem is getting the right price for mine, I paid a lot for mine and don't want to lose too much money.
The insurance would actually be cheaper as I can only find so many places that will insure it as a car for me. Van insurance is still daylight robbery due to my age.

might be better to sell your bits on ebay

I have done this on a series III. The defender panels are not that different. Not difficult to unbolt the panels and substitute station wagon sides and roof. It depends if you then want to go for roof lining, seats etc. It's all just nuts and bolts. Could get expensive to do a good job - the seats are pricey enough for a set of 4. If you happy with the oily bits on your current landy I'd say go for it.

One thing to be aware of is that your VIN will show it as being a van, if you are trying to insure it as a car you will obviously have to disclose that it is a modified vehicle which may up your premium slightly when compared to a quote for a original CSW of same age. Also if you go to London you will still get stiffed with the congestion charge unless you can get it re-classified (unlikely)
