Defender 90 Overheating

Just bought a defender 90 (2010) and drove 300 motorway miles...all good apart from very hot inside..had to drive with both windows open. Driver,s seat box gets very hot...had a look underneath...nothing obvious...gearbox was not too hot!! Suspect the transmission tunnel was letting hot air from the engine heat it up.......is this normal...is there a solution????
 
No funny smells, exhaust is routed under passenger side. The gear lever and low ratio lever remain cold..the handbrake lever and gaiter get V. hot.....the driver's seat box gets as hot as a central heating radiator. Only happened on the motorway at 70MPH. Drove her today on B roads...50 max..for 2 hours and all OK.
 
Best bet is to ask the boys over on defender2.net

The majority of them own 2007 onwards Defenders, so will know if it's quite common or not.

Unless because its new its still running in? is it new or have you bought it second hand ?
 
they dont teally need running in now bearings and gears are better than they where engines definately want hard pulling otherwise bores glaze,on long runs ive experience heat from transmission and so have alot of customers epecially stationwagons if only happens on long runs its nothing to worry about gear box has thinner oil more effective at loosing heat and a cooler,diffs are in the air stream ,a tight bearing would show up on shorter runs and would more than likely seized on long run
 
to counter the heat/cooking the back of your leg, we line the underside of the cab with that seflective roof insulation meterial that looks like bubble wrap, silver side down of course. makes the cab nice and quiet as well.
 
i ment reflective roof insulation normaly used for corrugated iron rooves ( dam key board!!!!!!)
