where dyou read that??? anywhere the ally n steel contact will rot like mad and the ally will turn to salt... maybe not as bad as a steel disco but don't be fooled into thinking birmabright is the answer to corrosion lol

cheers steve

Well thats interesting to know but its a lot easier to replace a floor panel than a whole disco floor if that arises surely? Will you be able to tell if the Ally will crumble? Do you just give it a good poke?

It actually turns to 'salt' look at the outside of an old set of defender doors at the bottom, or often where the rear x member tabs support the body if its been reattached without gaskets between the chassis tabs and the body... youll see it as bubbles and blisters to start off with

The pictures I posted were from my old 90 rear tub... its not been poked or scraped.. it has simply corroded away.. you can see a lot of the white powdery residue.. that used to be ally, that area is particularly bad as its where the steel seat belt bracket and tub are in close proximity...

Im sure the chemists will be on to add the correct terminology and explain just how it converts :)

Cheers Steve

So just a visual inspection will let you know that the ally in areas has had it. Surely its a lot easier to change than say a disco floor because you would just unbolt that panel and get a new panel?
