I recently had my 90 serviced and the pads where replaced with non standard land rover pads. Since then I have had several experiences of brake fade, which has been pretty scary! Anyway, does anyone know the best pads that I can get for my 90. It has disks all round and the engine has been slightly upgraded. I don't think it is a good idea putting vented/drilled disks in because of the offroading clogging them up.

just for the record, what make were those duff pads?! might save us all from same bad experience...
i haven't had to replace pads in my 90 yet, so i can't offer a tried and tested name. you could find out what the OEM pads were for your spec of 90 and use them. always cheaper when not in the vehicle manufacturer's own box.
as for vented discs, i can see point re mud, but more so with cross drilled. vented discs i would imagine should throw any muck out whenever you pick up speed, just from the centrifugal forces. would some more copper slip applied to any contact points between pads and caliper/ piston help reduce any vibration and friction? might help keep the heat down slightly.

Personally i have never had the problem with non genuine pads as you describe, usually its the disks that cause the main problem, Did they fit new disks? also i would of thought that on your landrover the front disks would be vented ones, if not they would be a good option to fit, the only trouble is like you mention about mud getting trapped in the vents as the disks get warm quickly drying the mud so it stays in. might be worth checking if they are blocked if yours is fitted with vented ones!
 
i was speaking to one of the lads at work today, he said he has the exact problem you have which only started after he fitted some cheap pads, so it might be worth going for genuine ones
