Hi,
I recently purchased a 1994 Defender 90, which needs some minor repair!! The clutch is biting as soon as the peddle is about a millimetre off the floor…so I will need to get parts once I know what the problem is...

Q: This beast has a 2.5TD engine – Did 1994 Defender 90’s ship with a 2.5 TD Engine as standard or where / how can I check?

Thanks!!

Cheers Dude!!

Now I just need to diagnose the dam clutch problem...it has fluid before you say to check that ;-)

Thanks!!

1994 shipped with TDis, not TD's - unless its a military one (i don;t think they even did that) or an export.

The TDi has a screw in (yellow plastic) oil filler cap. The TD just has a plug in metal one.

Yep - 1994 will most likely be a 300 Tdi (2.5 Turbo Diesel).

Does the clutch have pressure all the way down the travel? Or does it only get some pressure when it's right down near the floor?

No slippage at all --- the brake/clutch reservoir fluid was a tad low so I topped that up and it made a slight improvement but nothing significant. I have to depress the clutch right to the floor to get into gear without any ‘grinding’ but as soon as I life the clutch she is engaged…little or no play. Do you think replacing the fluid could make a difference?
