Defender 50th or new 110 Utility?

Hi All,

I am considering adding a Defender to my small collection and with the production of new cars for the UK market ending soon there probably won't be another chance to get one. It will be used infrequently and mostly around the narrower country lanes around us.

The Defender has always been something I wanted to own and have always liked the idea of having a V8 Automatic Defender and so naturally a 50th Anniversary suits my needs.

That said, I have always preferred the 110 and something new and so I am in a bit of a quandary.

I have seen a 50th with circa 40k miles up for £26,000 but for slightly more money I can buy a 110 Utility Wagon in the colour I want, with all the little extra bits I want on it. It just misses out on the V8 and the auto gearbox.

What would you do and why?

Well, i know mine is fine, but you're looking at an automatic, so feel if you are comfortable with the clutch, etc...
I would personally get the diesel, more economical, but looking at your price range that won't be an issue

i would think the 50th a better investment , the ones built now are not limited , they will just be another one of the last gasp defender , knocked together with a transit engine /gearbox steel doors etc , hardly defenders finest hour JMHO

Why not save £10,000 and buy a 110 TD5.

I bought an absolute minter for £13,750 prices have risen in the last year but l've seen a 26,000 mile and a 27,000 mile TD5 110 CSW for £17,000 and £18,995 respectively.

Both were the XS version and a good TD5 is a much better bet than a TDCi, plus you get high 20's MPG

50th all the way. It's limited, few are left and it's one hell of a gorgeous vehicle, especially considering the fact that your intentions of owning one are purely to add to a collection. A 50th anniversary will always be more collectible than an end-of-line vehicle.

Well, if you are looking to buy as an investment rather than a working vehicle l guess the 50th Anniversary is the one.
