defender 2nd row - renault scenic seats fitting

I have a set of 2005 renault scenic seats to replace the low back 2nd row csw seats. These should be safer for the kids.

I know that there are other options however this is what have and Im going with.
I have spoken to another member who had these seats installed and read up on a another forum about their installation.
I would like to find out if anyone else have them fitted and find out how they did it.

wonder if the fronts would fit in the fender too so everything matches

The front seats from what I have read will be too high in the front.
The rear seats look like they will be a few inch higher in the back but are more reclined than the standard seats.
I will measure everything and let you know what room there is

I have a 110sw in bits and my other car is, I'm proud to say, an 05 scenic 1.5dci and I've been considering this too. The best thing about the scenic seats while they're in the scenic is that all 3 can be individually removed in under a minute, making the car a van. I'd like to have that in the 110 but think it's a step too far.

That's far beyond my abilities. I would also think the seats would foul on the wheel arch

For those interested in these seats I have attached 8 photos for reference and to show progress so far.

I have got three separate seats in my CSW. I cant say how they would attach or fit with a split 2nd row seat.

The first and second picture show the scenic seats up close so you can get a better idea of what I am and other people are talking about when putting these seats in.

In the third picture I have removed the thin strut spanning both seat rails. I have also removed the spring plugs from the rear and the rivets ( see pic 4)
These back holes where the rivets were will later allow you to bolt the seat to the standard LR seat base.

I then unscrewed the LR seat back and base leaving the side brackets which allow the whole seat to tilt forwards.
The scenic seat sits inside these side brackets and don't need to be removed. It will allow the scenic seats to tilt forwards like the originals however they only get about 85% of the way there.


Picture 5 is from the back of the seat. The seat will sit nicely on the LR frames and bolt down however if you want the seat to slide further back the bracket could be trimmed along with the plastic on the seat base. It should give another 2 inch rear travel.
What I would say regarding this is that although the extra legroom would be appreciated the seat belt will be a few inch in front of the person when sitting in the seat.

Im not sure if this would be a MOT fail??? but it may add to injury if there is extra forward motion in an accident.

Picture 6 shows a seat comparison between the standard and the scenic seat.
The scenic is a few inch higher and a couple of inch further forwards.
My drivers seat is pushed to its back position.

Picture 7 shows the angle at which the seat sits. The seats do have multi position for the back and head rest.
I have compared this angle and height to the high back LR seats in another vehicle and they are pretty similar.

I am 6'3'' and on the hefty side. I can get into the rear seats ok from outside
( I do have a 2 inch lift).
If the seat back is bolt upright then my head just touches the roof ( I don't have a head lining).
However if I put the backrest further back I clear the roof easily. My nose if on level with the roof seam and I can look through the alpine windows.
I cant see much through the front windscreen.
I can get my legs either side of my drivers seat even with it pushed right back.

Behind the passengers side I have adequate room. Not much different than the standard, in fact I would say I was more comfortable.

I have got our lass to sit in the middle seat, which is the highest of the three with least headroom. She is 5'10'' and clear the roofs easily.

I haven't got any bolts to fasten the seats down yet and I would like your opinion on cutting the bracket at the back.
I not doing anything with the bracket until I have tried them out for a while just in case I want to revert back to the standard.

They are for my 2 very quickly growing lads so need to be safe.

I will post further once I pick the required parts up tomorrow.

Smart car seats matey

My fronts were done on all 3 defenders I've owned. Got the first of my 2nd row done last weekend. Really easy to convert them

I have kept the original seat frames and cut the back bracket down to allow the seat to travel as far back as possible. I also trimmed a small amount of plastic from the bottom of the seat.

I am really happy with the results. There is loads of leg room and I can sit it the seats comfortably especially when they are on full recline.
The seat belt isn't too far forward.

I'm using them for the kids and due to the seat belt bracket being exposed I am going to find a way to stop their heads hitting them in a accident.

I picked up some seats from a 2005 Grand Scenic and was planning on fitting them but I've just realised that the fittings on the seats are completely different to the ones shown in this thread. :-(

I'm sure people could suggest ways on fitting them when they see them.

I got one of them in - lots of blood, sweat, bad language but mainly drilling out rivets and cutting off the floor locking mechanism from the Scenic seats. So it can be done, it just takes me a lot longer than I expected.

I've been really slack and only just caught up on this :/
That looks like a pretty easy, worthwhile mod, off now to watch scenic seats on fleabay
