Recently I bought a land rover 110, it's been great other than the wipers are only going from the 9 O'clock position to the 12 O'clock, leaving large areas of the windscreen unclean, I've replaced the wiper wheel boxes and wiper arms on both sides, however the problem is still there, does anybody know what it could be, is it the motor or the rod that turns them ( I've forgotten the name) as it is quite rusted and how am I best going about fixing/ replacing them? I don't want to throw too much money at it as my wife thinks we've already spent too much on it and we're now digging into her shoe budget! Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

As for your wipers, have you checked that the spindle adaptor which holds the wiper arms on isn't spinning on the flats?
Next, check your earths.
Next, check the movement with the wiper blades off the screen and see how far they turn and if there is any radial play.
Then come back and tell us what you did and how you've got on
Stage two ... get rid of the excess noise as you can always get another wife,
or borrow someone elses

I've tried what you said and it all seemed to be ok, the movement off the screen was the same as on, I've also replaced one of the wiper arms as it was completely worn, however it's still the same, I did notice that when I was putting them back on the screen there was about 3-4 inches before there was any resistance so I'm wondering whether the gearing mechanism in the motor is worn. Thanks for the advice you gave, I'll keep on trying to figure out what it could be!
You say 3-4 inches. Did they both turn the same amount at the same time when you moved one?
Check that the motor cam is not adjustable (some Lucas cams were a long time ago), and then make sure that there is no play or movement when the motor is running, and that the clamp which holds the wiper tube to the motor gearbox doesn't have any play.

My money would be on a loose motor clamp. 3-4 inches of slack is huge. You may hear a bit of clunking from the motor as it operates in this case - as it moves around the bulkhead!
Thanks for all the help, I managed to get chance to have a look the other day and it turned out to be a clip that had broken inside the motor, I managed to replace it though, and they seem to be working a lot better, it's still not cleaning the entire windscreen, there seems to be a little bit at the top where they don't reach, but whether this is the way they're supposed to be I don't know (I would assume so though), but thank you for all the suggestions and help figuring out the problem!
