Defender 110 Front Swivel & Bearing Overhaul

Im wanting to replace the front swivel bearings, main swivel seal, wheel bearings and the king pin if needed. Basically overhaul the swivels/wheel bearings. Only with Timken bearing obviously.

I roughly know what I need but my laptops fried and searching via the phone is driving me mad!! So could anyone help me out with part numbers for what I need?

Tis an 04 110 XS with ABS

Just buy a complete swivel kit, you can get them with or without the ball depending on if it needs replacing or not.

Find the kit you need and it will list all of the part numbers of what is included in the below link.

See thats what was fitted by the previous owner just before I purchased it, not lasted too well imo. Which is why I want to replace with proper Timken not blue bag stuff.

Is that both sides or just one side each kit?

It's a while since I did mine so I can't remember what I bought and my LR Direct order history only goes back about a year or so. But it's a job well worth doing. Even if they're not actually loose to begin with, new steering swivel bearings improve the handling I've found. Here's mine

606666g is bottom brg
tar100050g is top pin and brg
ftc3646 ,ftc3648,571752 gaskets
stc4382g wheel brg
stc3435 one shot grease

I know they were not what you were looking for but the description for the kits includes a list of part number for everything included. I was being too lazy to look everything up individually like @jamesmartin has for you.

However as @bankz5152 states, the bearings are not the best and I have replaced both the bearings and the seals since doing it originally.

i gave the numbers instead of kit so as it has timken bearings

I know, and from the individual part numbers you can then search for quality bearings. I was too lazy to find and copy the part numbers across so just linked to where the OP could find them. You answered the question properly.

Put together a shopping list, this look like everything I need for a wheel bearing and swivel bearing overhaul?

Also I'm guessing I can drift the races out (and back in again) of the swivel ball while in situ? I really hate undoing all those 14mm bolts

Was also thinking of packing the bearings with grease before fitting, then filling the housing with proper EP90 instead of the one shot grease (only as I have about 10L of EP90)

I know theres a few extras in there, can't hurt to have spares. Plus when doing larger jobs like this I prefer to use all new bolts as the old ones often get damaged!

Anything I've missed? Or anything else worth doing while everything is off?

Thanks again everyone, past week has been a right gut punch! Only thing still running and working is my 110! Feels like everything else has fallen to bits lol

Does the kit/shopping list have any shims?

Before full strip down make sure the swivel pin is the correct one. There are a few.

They usually give you a few in the 'swivel pin kit' in my experience. These, allied to the ones already on there, should give as much adjustment as anyone's little heart could desire.

I replaced my offside swivel 2 yrs ago and I thought I could get away with not replacing the ball....big mistake !! I've had to do the whole job again a couple o days ago with a new ball.... If there is any pitting on the ball just bite the bullet pay your money and fit a new one.....TS
