Well,

I just bought a 1972 12 seater series 3 109 Safari I have wanted for a while and 4 insurers including Adrian Flux have refused to insure it because it has 12 seats.

Adrian Flux said they would insure it if I was willing to butcher it and take out the bench seats in the rear. Never heard such a load of B*****ks

I am 48 with 14 years NCB & this week had quotes for £200 odd for clasic 2 seater sports cars I have nbeen looking at and not much more for a 7 liter Jensen

anyone got any advice

welcome to my life :(

believe it or not- none of the "specialist" 4x4 insurance companies will insure you.

NFU will but theyve just jacked their premium up 100% from last year -- bye :p

got mine with Aviva but also the go compare phone line ( not web site ) will quote

Good luck - took me 5 hours ringing around to get a competitive quote

You could always do what I did. my other half can't drive a 12 seat vehicle, so I took out the front middle seat and had the V5 amended so it is now registered as a 9 seat vehicle rather than 12. It still has the original rear bench seats, but I am now only legally allowed to carry 8 passengers instead of 11.

Im just in the final throws of buying mine, its been made into a 9 seater, phoned my current insurer, they wont insure anything with more than 8 seats (thats TOTAL 8, not 8 passenger.)

Oh crap
Finally got myself a 110 csw :D
Phoned pickles up to swap the insurance over. Good news is only £25 increase, bad news the max number of seats is seven and I really don't want to take seats out :(
Had no idea of this being an issue.
I've just read countless posts and it's obviously a big issue. Real shame as I would have preferred to stay with franke pickles.
I was only paying £250 for a modified disco ES.
I'll have to keep the disco on the road for a bit longer until I can sort the insurance out.
So I'm looking for 12 sweater insurance on a soon to be modified 110 I wonder what that's going to cost

Would be interesting to hear from the Forum sponsors on this issue!

can tell you what they'll say ...their underwritters wont cover it because the cost of the potential personal accident claims that one vehicle could trigger makes it prohibitive. Even landrover insurance...run as part of the landrover group, wont insure this particular vehicle with this many seats, nor any of the so called specialist insurers. I got mine with aviva...strange but true

Trouble is I want a to modify my 12 seater.
I'm going to try aviva in the morning but fear they won't like MT tyres, winches and snorkels, especially if I go down the road of a lift.
Then I'll try pleading with Frank Pickles. Someone must offer something?
Still it looks good on the drive

I had the same problem when I was renewing . AF wouldn't insure me with 9 seats so stuck with admiral (they never even asked about seats)

Aviva are fine with my snorkel winch bumper, spot lights and mud tyres.

All you gotta say is each mod is practicality and does not make any performance increase. Make sure you get them to notice that.

With the mud tyres I asked if I could put them on when I needed them ie weekends. They said that's fine. Problem for them is I need them most days, so they stay on

I ended up removing the bench seats and staying with frank pickles.
My insurance expired on friday & regrettable Frank Pickles couldn't insure me as a twelve seater and i wanted to put the seats back in.

I always said I wouldn't insure with Adrian Flux given some of the threads on here, but there have been a few threads recently about good service.

Long story short, £280 fully comp, 12 seats, modified, limited mileage, social only = happy Nick :D

Nick,

I'm glad that we could help. Any issues don't hesitate to give me a shout.

Cheers,

Ed
