Actually that wall is only 15-20 years old. I believe the problem is because cheap "London" facing bricks were used

Because it is only single skin it has absorbed water like a sponge and then frost has blown it all apart.

Not only that.... I is still working. I ain't retired yet. Not by a long way :(.

soft brick/clay, not good fired brick

Facing bricks should not be used on garden walls, the water gets in, freezes n blows the face off.. The coping looks ok, so try n clean them up if pos, cos they cost a bit.. Use some decent stockies with a weather struck joint and it will look good n last well. I would do it for you but I am flat out now..

I would say the coping looks like its seen better days and that is probably a big contributory factor in why the bricks have blown. The coping looks like old clay cants. London (stock:p) bricks are not the best for garden walls.

I would use either a good clay 'best', concrete or an engineering brick.

I would also think about having a decent coping in either concrete like a saddle back or an engineering quality brick.

I will now go and get a life

Copings are fine.
Its the brick that are crap.
Does no-one fancy a job?

dig it out, lay a concrete retaining wall and then brick face with Engineering bricks? Is it that difficult?

Mind yu I am a stickler for getting it correct
