Hey All,

The other day, I went to move my 90 out the way of the garage. Started up no problems and was just sat idling while I got the other car out the garage.

As it was idling, it just..... shut off. Then it just cranked, with no sign of life. Had to rush to work so pushed it back and left it.

Having had a bit of time to do some more diagnosis, this is where I'm at...

All fuses, relays etc. are good. I have no sign of life from the fuel pump. And interestingly, it seems anything ECU related is dead. No comms with Nanocom, no glow plug light on dash, no EML light on dash etc. etc.

It's like the ECU chose that moment to just give up on life.

Any pointers on what else to check? Im hopefully getting my hands on another ECU at the end of the week to test out.

Yes, that sounds a bit like an ECU failure to me.

When you try the spare one, don't forget to mate it up with the immobilizer with the Nanocom. It's under 'engine', then 'utilities' and then either 'learn security code' or 'learn DDS code'. I'm sure you know this anyway, but it took me a while to find it, as I was looking under the 10AS alarm menus for ages.

Is this necessary for making it run? Can I simply plug it in and see if I get fuel pump running, dash lights etc. If I get that far it still confirms 100% its ECU dead.

If you get a refurbished ecu you can get it with the immobiliser switched off so it will start. Otherwise the pump/injectors probably won’t go

This might be obvious, but have you checked for oily ECU connection? Carb cleaner rescued mine until the new loom was installed….

Just a thought.

Well I've had a couple of secondhand ECUs where the vendor claimed to have turned the immobiliser off, but I've needed to go through the 'learn security code' procedure to get the engine to start. Yes, in theory if the engine light etc. come on that's a good sign, but surely you'd want to see if the engine will start? It's possible for other things to go wrong at the same time as the ECU.
