Just after some advice really!
I have searched on here but not found an exact match to my fault, so I thought it best to start a new thread.
Let me go back to the beginning...
Not long after I got her, the front demist started playing up, only one side would work, then the other, then neither, then both etc. Not the end of the world so I ignored it.
Then, for some reason the radio started playing up; whenever I touched the brakes or put the indicators in it would mute for a second or two. Once again, annoying but I sort of put up with it..
Then I started getting the holy trinity of dashlights, not all the time, just once and a while, for no apparent reason. They would come on, be illuminated for a few seconds to a minute, then go out.
Then, last month, I put a new starter motor on her as the old one was beyond redemption, and all was fine (apart from the faults above) until about two weeks later. I would turn the key, and the starter would turn over for a few seconds then stop. Release the key, repeat, and it would turn for a few seconds and stop.
Now, when I turn the key I get the "bong bong bong bong" and the little D (or B) on the LCD panel with a line through it.
My first thought is a knackered BCU. Would this seem plausible?
my second thought it what else could it be? Not keen on spending almost £300 on a new one for it and then find out the old one is fine.
Then, as these things come in threes, my third thought was (after reading umpteen posts all over the interweb) how am I going to get my EKA as it wasn't in the paperwork when I got the car? as I need this to un-immobilise the car and then read the settings from the BCU so I can transfer the map from the old one to the new one.
Finally, can you reprogram a second hand BCU with the map from my BCU or is that a big fat NO NO??
Lots of questions here, and huge thanks for all help offered!
If it helps, I am based between Colchester and Sudbury, so if anyone knows the answers to this multitude of questions and is local, I can provide, tea, cake and possibly alcohol for once you get home...
