Sounds abit small tbh, like Storm says, bigger is better, 800+ on cranking power and 90A on general usage (200TDi's use 70A though i think )

Halfords do sell a 850 rated 95ah battery for £89 i think, only just quickly looked at it when i was last in there picking up something, if you go for a 19J rated battery you'll be in a better situation.

had similar problems in my 200ttdi when the cold snap started, took it out to find it was a leisure battery 450cca

replaced with a 700cca and had no problems so far

Thanks Paul,
Can you remember what make it was?
I've had a look on their website but its rather confusing; you cant actually search for batteries:confused:

Found this one though:
Halfords | Bosch 12V Silver Car Battery HSB019
  • AH Value: 100
  • Bench Charge: 6.0 Amps
  • Dimensions (LxDxH): 353x175x168mm
  • Guarantee: 5 Years
  • Startup Power: 830 Amps
  • Type: Silver
  • Weight (kg): 23.17
But that looks like its rather big compared and I'm not sure if that would even fit as its a lot longer than my current one.

Measure your battery space and whack it in..you wont regret it.

I've just pulled it out and its a "Halfords 12V Calcium Car Battery HCB072" 550 amps: (is 550 enough???)

Easiest thing for me would be to get the same one from Halfords as I'm only 5 minutes from the nearest Halfords.

550 is not enough to heat yer glow plugs, let alone crank a cold engine over :)
TBH I wouldn't touch halfrauds with a barge pole either...
You can get better & cheaper if you look around.
I would go for the biggest capacity CCA & A/hr rating that fits into your battery box...
Don't go for a LEISURE type battery- their NOT designed for starting engines but for holding charge over a longer period ie Caravans....
Optima are good but very expensive. Try yer local tractor shop :)
I'll check tomorrow but iirc I went for a high capacity VARTA
good value...
Will confirm later

Where have you been? He's getting a good Bosch with 830cca's..ok, its from halfords but sometimes you have to dance with the devil...

Been to Gozo very nice, and warm/hot,and that is the problem in the UK just no warmth to be had.All batts hate the cold, even ones in good conditon will have reduced performance at below zero temps,so when cold weather is forcast get that charger on to top your battery right up.

Picked up the battery from Halfords earlier, fitted it and bingo!:D
All sorted, started straight away.

Thanks everyone for all the input, much appreciated!

Good battery thread this one. From my FFDAS activities looks like best options are:

Bosch 12v HSB019 which does CCA 830 and 100ah at about £90 (from Halfrauds) or Numax CXV-X which does MCA 1000 (about CCA 750) and 86ah for about £73 (delivered from Tayna).

The Bosch HSB019 is the one I've just installed and I've paid £116 for it; where did you get the £90 from?

My mistake. I think I read it in an earlier post, but just checked Halfrauds and you is correct:)

I would question whether its £43 better than the Numax though?? (I have neither by the way. Just researching)

Get a trade card if your buying from the Halfords, it knocks quite a lot off shelf price. I got a Varta from my local indy last year, cheaper than most and 5 yrs guarantee, for the Disco (300TDi).

Heard about it, went into my local store and took a pay slip (not in the motor trade - but heavy engineering) and they gave me one no problem, as they did for several others who I suggested try it. Seems they have relaxed the rules a fair bit. Got mine earlier on this year, if you don't ask.......
