Hi, My temp gauge works sometimes, and will just drop when travelling along. From prevoius thread the dashboard temp sensor is the single wire one (inlet maniflod) near the black-multi-plug, so i removed the one from my old engine to fit in a recently replaced 4.0 litre engine in my car, when i looked at this engine theres no sensor and been blanked off with a fitting. So how is my temp gauge getting its info on this engine???? Colin

Hi Colin....On some 4.0's the sensor was located in the elbow where the top hose from the radiator goes. There are only two water temperature sensors on the V8, one has two wires and a square plug (Sensor for the engine ecu) and the other has a single wire with a female "Bullet" type push on connector that goes onto what looks like a threaded stud on the sensor which is for the gauge. Irrespective of where the sensors are fitted, it should give a consistent gauge reading. The temperature sensors are cheap to replace and you do not need to drain the system if you act quicky.....with the engine cold of course !!!
I replaced my inlet manifold a few years ago because of a stripped thread and the replacement came with the hose elbow fitted together with the single connection sensor.

Hi, Right i was thinking that the green was for the ECU and the single wire was for the dashboard, each engine had both!!!!!!!!! So i will replace this sensor and let you know what happens. Colin
