For some reason I cannot fathom my dashboard clock (smiths industries finest?) just does not work.
If I press the time correcting button it will advance (slow, then faster, then megaspeed) but after you set it you can return to the car to find it has not advanced from the set time. The clock is supposed to be permanently powered, and indeed with the key out of the ignition pressing the set button can make the hands move (so power must be there) so why does it just "die". I can't see a simple way to remove it either to bench-test on a 12V source.

Anyone got any advice/ideas (apart from buy a watch). :)

It's broked? There's a field full of ticks here though, i can post you some!!

Sorry, can't think of anything else if it does have power. Does it work with the engine running?

Clock is knackered. I have not had a P38 one apart, but some have a balance wheel as in a clockwork watch. the balance wheel has a pin which brushes a contact to pulse the mechanism on each swing. The contact fails but the clock will still advance on the button. This may or may not apply to the P38 clock but for sure it's not a solid state clock using a quartz crystal for time keeping.

I've had my clock out to replace a bulb and I recall it's a faff, not difficult just lots of screws. The bulb has stopped working again so I've got to delve in there again for a look see. From memory it's consul side checks, switch pack, gear surround, hvac, radio out, knee panel(iirc) more screws and the facia is out. Clock releases from the rear.

Thanks for the info. Why didn't they make it stealable from the front with a couple of feelers like a radio? Grrrrr.

I replaced the bulb when mine went with an ultra bright red LED.

@Grrrrrr , decided to attack my clock bulb today. Both consul cheeks have to come off, 2 screws, move the seat fully back to access the rear most ones.
I struggled to get the cheeks off last time I was in there about 2 yrs ago but it's easy when you know so whilst it's still fresh in my head I'll pass it on.
The top return lip of the cheek needs rolling back slightly whilst pulling the front of the cheek backwards. Screwdriver points to the lip on the cheek and where it's retained on the consul. Don't attempt to remove them until the switch pack and gear surround is out.

The binnacle surround will need to come off too, there is one screw hidden behind it that holds the big piece of plastic containing the clock eas switches etc.
Turns out I had a dodgy bulb in my clock, it worked if I touched it,was just too loose a fit in the bulb holder, new bulb is much snugger, strangly it's the same make from the same order I made of 20 new bulbs from euro carports. I replaced every bulb at the same time during the restoration, the left indicator tell tale also stopped working a couple of weeks ago so I'm onto that next, same type bulb probably, can't remember. Got both in stock incase.

Does yours have the sat nav type of centre dash, if it does (without the satnav) the cubby will come out and, you can
reach the clock bulb, too late now I know, already done.

No sat nav in mine neither. How do you gat the cubby box out without damage to everything?
I just pulled mine out, no clips as such just, raised bits on the cubby where it fits the opening in dash but, I wouldn't
say you could remove the whole clock via it, I just removed the cubby to change the bulb.
