I have started dismantling my series 3 again now that the days are stretching out a bit and i am currently removing the dash which isn't in too bad a shape but has the odd tatty corner, does any one have any tips or know of any kits for fixing up the dash especially the vinyl type cover? thanks in advance.


P.S I did do a search for any previous threads but didn't find any so apologies if it has been covered already
 
A lot of these trim fittings are unobtainable now. I haven't seen any dash trim even as aftermarket parts unless someone else knows and I'd also like to know if there suppliers.
 
I've done some work on mine recently, i cut out and replaced the knackered metal with some shoddy welds.
its now got a lot more strength and rigidity, and hopefully will last the lifetime i have the landy.
the vinyl comes off in one piece and was really easy to refit after repairing the metal.

i have looked at these pre-made leather covers on ebay, but they're a bit too much for me right now

i messaged the seller and confirmed they fit straight over the original dash vinyl.

I nearly didn't bother because of the hassle, I thought the metal was much stronger than it turned out to be, so i'm really glad i took the time with this bit.
the dash panels are a famous moisture trap from the heater condensation so they tend to be really bad underneath the vinyl
 
I recovered my dash top about a couple of years ago. Bought some vinyl from Dunelm Mill for just a few quid (most material sellers offer it by the meter off the roll. I just bonded it over the existing dash top. I kind of stretched it over the top and glued it underneath. It was a much easier job than I thought as the vinyl was nice and flexible.
 
Interesting. Ditto on the wiper covers and the top section of the dashboard. With all the aftermarket kit now around for classic cars I'm surprised there's not more availability in this area. It's where a good refurbishment makes it look like new.

Yeah apparently they do. I messaged and asked. Weird that they don't show the photos or mention it.

I was really interesting in the set but they're sold separately and cost a fortune to finish the whole dash in the same style.

had them in my watch list for over a year never got round to asking about the wiper bit, agree they are pricey, doubt I shall ever push the button, think land raver and ajb403's suggestion makes the most sense.

I remember seeing the pics in ajb403's resto thread now he said it
 
first i am going to have to remove the dash it is being very stubborn are there any hidden fixings? what is the correct order for removing it?

Just work around the screws. I think start with the lower part. There's a plastic trim in the dash tray that you need to remove before trying to remove the main part. Just be carfeull of wiring and any screws you missed before you pull it

With my series 3 dash I only recovered the top shelf....
Removed the material from the lower section and..
Painted it body colour....
Got the black material from a local....
Fabric shop
 
I finally read the section in the green bible rather than just using it as a table decoration! I had missed one bolt. should really of learned by now to read the instructions :oops:
