Thanks mate second ironical thing in two days, was just looking at same advert and noted turbos are listed for D4 and xf so inadvertently have a pair here will check part numbers, if all goes well maybe close next weekend but still have new motor to fit in D3
Not sure about difficulties though

Maybe someone else might have info as well ref the turbos , sent links as well about the drivers side TSOV turbo which I think can be changed quite easily

Plus another one sent about comparing part numbers , etc

Thanks mate, yes think their the same xf and D4 will check part numbers and switch actuators over hopefully turbos only issue
Sure they will come out body on we'll see mate you'll be first to know, thanks for heads up about removal, will do n/s first, looking at turbos may be a couple of tricky bolts will make up a spanner or think of something Lol collecting tomorrow will check information and add to my black book many thanks mate for your help

Ur so very welcome mate , also see the jag xj seems to be the same turbos

Plus wonder if that may operate and different psi ratings , found this company ref comparisons

Hope it’s useful and u get on ok, indeed think that’s half the battle trying to get some nuts and bolts out , handy u can adapt tools etc to make life easier

But think for the xj they add a SC on top , not sure if it’s for the 2.7 or 3.0 but maybe there are cross match parts

Plse let us know how u get on , along with the turbo drain mod

Accidentally bumped into turbo drain modifications while looking for removal videos apparently is doable body on, as I told you is a peach of a discovery. Although it must prove I'm insane Lol

As you know mate picked it up today it's a dirty peach thanks for information mate much appreciated, planning well first another battery then going to run health check with diagnostic, will see if any clues lie there would appreciate you advice mate expect questions Lol but seems switching out maf sensors for my 09D4 might be worth a shot, can see no oil anywhere and motor runs with maf sensors disconnected no knocks or rattles
Missis give me 14 days to repair now 13 so any advice or input gratefully recieved
On way over D3 averaged 32.9 with trailer and D4 on way back 32.3 pretty good I thought

Can confirm is turbos, lot of oil gathered in intake pipe but not intake itself will be lot at the bottom so will clean intercooler, pipes, bypass valve and obviously turbos and do drain upgrade same time hoping to use xf turbos I have and am down to twelve days and its raining and I dont have room in the workshop Lol

With that oil maybe saved it from being a runaway mate

Haven’t been able to see if the d4 or xf turbos are matched psi wise , wonder if checking the vacuum pumps may assist in determining that , sorry but don’t know them in depth im afraid

Have been searching through my many bookmarks manuals etc

Fingers crossed isn’t to bad of a job and make some easy progress , will of course share any info as soon as I find any

Think I rear the turbos need to be calibrated if u fit a new actuator but assume ur fit them as a complete unit so shouldn’t be required

Now starting mate do you think by the week end will order gaskets today, yes checked out xf turbos by part number also listed as D4 so should be good, found numbers on that London turbo website too will just do turbos side at at time, might be good idea to fit silicone at this point, come up nice though got to get on only 12 days left and counting many thanks mate Steve

That’s a great start of them matching , indeed done the same fitting silicone hoses and the t bolt clamps

Really made a difference of how well they hold plus won’t swell or suck in so to speak as the turbo pressure increases

Made sure they were stainless Steele as well as fit and forget after that , just used some washing up liquid to make life easy getting them on as some were tight , then used my cordless ratchet for the nuts on the t clamps

No didn’t get anything I’m afraid , , did send a test message

Did find the following for u if u haven’t already seen them , hope it’s useful and maybe explain the oil

Think if u go into the live data on the engine side u should be able to select the Maf sensors , but assume if these errors are shown they may not show the correct readings if the TSOV isn’t working correctly

Don’t know if u can get a pipe on the vacuum pipe and use a hand held vacuum pump if that will allow the tsov to move

Or if there’s a possible vacuum pipe leak

Sorry but not 100% sure on these engines I’m afraid , just what I’ve managed to find

This is a vacuum operated on/off switch if you like for the fixed vane secondary turbo on the drivers side. The switch is required to enable the turbo which is static until required. If you leave the vehcile ticking over for perhaps 5-10 minutes you will hear the engine tone get deeper. This is the valve being operated to allow the turbo to rotate and thus prevent prolonged static periods which used to allow oil seepage.

The codes log when the tsov solenoid valve is opened in order to apply a vacuum to the tsov but the hall sensor mounted to the tsov doesn't show the valve has fully opened. This can be tested with a mitivac/vacuum guage/datalogger etc.

Likely causes are split vacuum hose on the vacuum network thus insufficient vacuum applied to the valve, faulty solenoid (mounted on the centre of the timing belt cover) or least likely faulty tsov. Worst case though if the tsov needs changing it's about three hours total and no reason to remove body. Make sure the position sensor limits are learnt on refit!
 
Thanks once again mate going to strip it out have a look cant see anything at this point, pizzing with rain at moment going to go over this piece by piece when off can borrow vacuum pump reading up at moment about tsov bypass valve etc all the best
