D2 traction Control kicks in after Diff Swap.

Hi all,
As the title suggests... Swapped the front diff for a rebuilt one in my GF's D2 and now if I accelerate too much it kicks traction control in.. Same if I turn a corner.. Etc can get over 20moh without it kicking.

My thoughts are hub sensor/s arnt working properly or are mucky... Diff is the correct type etc.

Thinking of just ordering 2 new front sensors as wanna get her MOT'd mid week next week.

Any thoughts before I go ahead and order them?
 
Do the three amigos come on?
It is faintly possible that the two front hubs have a different number of teeth on them than the rear ones, which can happen as some disreputable peeps flog them, this would throw up a fault and the three amigos would come on.
If you DON'T get the three amigos on then it begs the question why are you getting TC? As this only happens normally when one wheel is spinning somewhere.
Could it be possible that you have a worn tyre on one wheel, or wrong inflation?
What made you change the diff in the first place?
 
There amigos don't come on. I get the handbrake (!)symbol and traction control when the traction Control kicks in.

On rear tyre is more worn then the rest... Is the traction control that sensitive on these?

The rear bearing where it attaches to the prop was shot on the old diff

I get the same on a tight turn, or if I mount the verge on a narrow lane. Just means its picking up one wheel at a different speed and thinks its spinning. If the tyre is quite a difference from the rest, yes it can pick it up, as it will be turning at a slightly different rpm. Have you got anyone local with a diagnostic, so you can see live values as you drive ?

My mechanic is really good he does have diagnostics aswell.. It goes for an MOT today I've told about the issue. She's mainly in to see what work needs doing. Don't expect her to pass first time. I have a spare wheel that's brand new I can swap that over no problem. I'll do that when I am home. Just before the mot. If it happens on way to mot station I'll ask him to take a look.

When we bought it the diff was shot. I got it tailored away. Bloke had been driving heard a bang/clunk then it was making load of noise pulled over.. Got it recovered and was told diff. And told big price to fix and a she hardly used it. He put her up for sale. I got her recovered to mine and got a diff. So we've never actually drove her anywhere. Other then locally and even that's an issue with her doing this at every turn/hitting 25mph

A poke in the dark but any possibility that the ratio of the diff you put in is different to what came out?
 
If it is I was miss sold it . I have a disco 1 but from what I've read diff are different.

If that's the case I'll just have to get another one or rebuild the one I took out.

Somehow I don't think so!
Also you can jack one wheel up, put it into neutral then turn the prop by hand and count how many turns it takes to turn the wheel right round, or vice versa, then do the same on the front. If the numbers differ then yes you have the wrong diff.

Yea I reckon the centre will take a beating, And something is bound to get damaged.

I'll give that a try today. When it's back from MOT, if it is the wrong diff I'll have to get it sorted one way or another.

I have read that D1, D2, and RRC from 93 onwards are the same.. Providing they are the 24 spline and not the 10.

I have a D1 from 93 in my lock up... So that's always an option. Guessing the diff I got must have ended up being a defender one if it is indeed the diff that is.

This is where you really understand why so many of us have diagnostics of our own, as having to take it back to the mechanic and pay to have something checked can soon add up.

As for the TC, do you still have the old axle? Maybe just swap the hubs off that to the new axle.
 
It was a diff I fitted didn't swap axles. I have a disco one in my lock up ut all totally different. I have to swap out the upper ball joints on the axle on both sides this weekend so I'll take a look at the hubs and clean it all and the sensors make sure the wires arnt kinked or crushed or anything daft like that.

If the diffs had different ratios you'd know it pretty soon as the drive train would wind up and something would go bang. If you've driven it any distance with no mechanical issues then they're more than likely the same.

As for the TC, do you still have the old axle? Maybe just swap the hubs off that to the new axle.
 
Did it pass the MOT ?

It Did not got it back yesterday morning... 15 faults that needed sorting sorting to pass... I've managed to get 9 boxed off yesterday... Guna box off all the ones need for pass and it had like 4 advisories so I've sorted 2 of them as well.

I've got a project thread so I'll bang pics etc on there .

I'll be stripping hubs down as part of mot repairs so I'll put on here anything I dfind with sensors etc
 
So, hubs stripped and sensors checked...

They where covered in buts of rust etc..

Cleaned the rust flakes off them. And the vehicle runs as normal. But now I have this to deal with.

It's getting put on a machine tomorrow and any codes cleared etc. Will keep posted as to what the issue with the abs may be.
 
That ABS warning is not supposed to stay on alone, it should go out when the vehicle exceeds 10mph if a fault was fixed or bring on the "3 amigos" if a fault is present and then the TC will not kick in at all cos it's disabled by default. Can you see the TC and HDC warnings on ignition self test? If not means they are blanked and if they come on then off but the ABS stays on alone while driving then the ECU is suspect or there's a wiring issue on that warning lamp's circuit. That sensor looks fubar as it got hurt when you removed it, seems bent a bit so normally you should have the 3 amigos on

You where correct took it for a little drive this morning and boom 3 amigos appeared fairly quickly...

Took it to garage he put the machine on and its showing low power to front left abs sensor..

Rang round 3 different parts dealers loc to me and these are the prices I got...
£68 Euro car parts
£107 GSF parts
£25 North Wales 4x4 (fair price and always get stuff next day)

I was going to go with North Wales 4x4 but just thought I'd check Amazon and even cheaper again.

That's what I went for... Can get the front pair for like £27 aswell so make sure you have a look on there if your ever after one. Next day on nearly all of them with prime aswell

So after tomorrow evening this should hopefully be boxed off.
