Hi Folks

I have a 2002 Discovery II with air suspension.

I have had a few issues of late, and replacing the compressor and valve blocks have not fixed it. Normally when I lock the car the suspension stays up.

I can leave it for most of the week and the suspension stays up. But if I unlock the car and re-lock it, or if I unlock the car, leave the door or boot open, or if the boot is open and I’m sitting on the back bumper, the rear suspension will slowly drop.

When it’s all the way down, usual method will get it pumped back up again.

It has been suggested that the airbags are leaking or the sensors are faulty. But everything stays up when I just lock it and leave it.

Has anybody come across this before, I was looking for another option before changing the sensors and bags. Thanks

Hi, that's a strange one and hard to diagnose without a nanocom or similar to watch live inputs while the symptom occurs... next time when it starts dropping disconnect immediately the battery negative lead and see if it keeps dropping or not, come back with the result and we'll speak then

Ok Sierrafery ;)

When the airbags are releasing because I’m sat on the tailgate, I don’t hear hissing or anything.

It just gently goes down.

Maybe that's why the hissing is silent cos it goes down gently... the hissing is irrelevant as long as the air goes out of the bags for some reason

The fact the air goes down evenly is a bit odd.

I had this before changing the compressor. It went down and failed to pump up necessitating a flatbed taxi.

I have left the car for days locked up without the suspension moving, even with a trailer attached.

Perplexing. If I plugged a code reader in what settings where would I need to look at please?

I have yet to have any time to actually test it as I’ve been at work. Thanks for your advice.

That test with battery disconnection might reveal if it's a management or leak issue.... or not, if it stops dropping when the battery is disconnected means that it's a system misbehaviour

In the inputs section is visible if the valves are activated or not

I’ve finally had a chance to do something with it while I’m on standby at work.

Earlier earlier parked in a different spot I was chatting with a colleague and we were sitting on the back and it went down. Running the engine pumped it back up.

The error codes I had were:

4150: Historical Rear Left Power Amp with electrical connection interrupted

4151: Historical Rear Right Power Amp with electrical connection interrupted

4152: Historical Exhaust Power Amp with electrical connection interrupted

4167: Historical Event ON Duration Compressor

With the code reader plugged in, and sitting on the back bumper, the suspension does not drop. I added an extra 2 colleagues as well as myself and it still didn’t drop.

Disconnecting the Hawkeye and the suspension drops with the boot open.

Not any of the other doors just the boot. I have cleared the codes, and we shall see how it goes

update: ignition on without the hawkeye plugged in lets the suspension drop.

With codereader plugged in it holds the suspension up.

I can’t do anything bonnet up at work such as disconnecting the battery

Testing today was not a testing day. I hooked up my caravan, and the suspension dropped and did not rise even though the compressor was running.

It did lift up a little bit, but as the compressor was running all the time it didn’t seem to cope and lift the vehicle up, then the compressor stopped again and the suspension dropped to the bump stops

With the caravan off the Disco it managed to pump the back end up okay. I think I heard a hissing noise so the next step when I get back from my adventures is to have a poke around underneath and find out what is leaking.

I borrowed a friends car for this adventure. I would’ve preferred my own.

Thank you for your continued support
