Dear All,
Autumn is come to the leafy lanes of Staffordshire and, right on cue, my rear wiper has suddenly (no earlier signs of failure) stopped working. There is no power on the main motor plug (smaller two wire connector) when I operate the switch but I can see 12V on the larger 3 wire connector, switch on or off?? After reading earlier descriptions of this type of problem I even made sure I checked for power with all the doors closed. Fuse 18 is intact and I am not sure how to check that relay 137 is working. Initially I assumed it to be a motor failure and, sure enough, on stripping it out I found some internal braided copper connections were broken. After fixing these and plugging it was still dead. Only then did I check for power to the motor! I have read the relevant parts of the manual but gave up when it started to describe 'signal from the IDM/BCU etc.
Also after stripping the motor down and rebuilding I find it quite stiff to turn the motor shaft in the housing. The wiper drive is quite free. Any advice especially on the apparently dead circuit gratefully received.
Quick note regarding 3 amigos (which I expect will never be fully understood) which I get periodically. MOT this year failed on front wheel bearings. Had them done at local garage and also asked them to check any fault codes. I know bad bearings can fire these 3 off so hoped, as a bonus, this would cure it. Well the front end feels a lot tighter, the garage man said there was one 'fault code' in the memory but not specific and, yes you guessed it, those 3 chaps still ping off periodically!!??
Great Joy,
Pat
