Hi all,
Another inane question I'm afraid....
I'm working my way into the engine to get at a blown head gasket and all that is (currently) left between me and the head being removed are the cylinder head bolts.
I have so far managed to snap my 19mm standard socket, and have been nervous about my remaining "centre grip" 19mm socket as it is by design not a tight fit and I'm using a 1.5metre "lever" but so far no joy.
I know it is steel through alloy which is always a pain but none of the three bolts I've tried have shown any signs of shifting.
So my questions are :
1. Is there a special socket that is good for these cylinder head bolts ?
2. Is there an approach that I should be taking to loosen them ?

Starting to feel that this simple job is like wading through treacle!

Regards

OK,to answer my own question I went out and got a deep impact socket and tried again. It was a bit scary as I suspect that the first three bolts were way over torque but they did come loose. The remaining 15 were all easy to undo - much ado about nothing..

Some can twist quite a bit, but thats not a problem as thats what they are designed to do, the bolts can be reused up to 5 times, if you decide to replace them DONT use the cheap ones as Ive heard they can snap whilst being torqued up!
Ive always reused the old bolts and never had an issues.
