Cycle tail board electrics.

Just recently got a freelander sport 2006, no tow bar. How do I connect the electrics for a cycle number plate board, got the LR kit attachment with plug in unit any idea where this connects to without having to do too much work.

Just doing the same and bought the LR electrics to N connector set (£19 inc postage). Real easy to fit, 4 twist off plastic clips, 1 phirrips screw at the top of the wheel arch where the load cover clips and 6 torx screws to remove the load area floor protection strip. Feed the wiring through the grommets and clip into place.

What I haven't worked out is if the flasher relay needs to be upgraded. I know there is a warning light on the dash, but it doesn't do anything with the light board connected. Does the need to be "told" that these a light board on, or does it work it out for it's self?

not sure about flasher relay but dosn't the kit have a beeper to let u know that the indicators are working?
I have seen trailer repeat light on discos but I don't recall seeing it on my 03 dash OR prehaps mine is us as well!!!

trailer warning light is on dash, but very rarely used in this country. needs a wire running back from trailer socket to fusebox. No-one ever bothers as the normal "bleeping" flasher relay is enough to be legal. Requirement is for either an audible or visual warning when you turn the indicators. Not sure if the wife going "don't forget the trailer you wan*er" every time you hit 60 is enough in the eyes of the law though.

I fitted a genuine landrover tow bar and electrics, the socket for the plug on the harness is behind the off side inner boot panel, in a clip. You can't miss it. The kit came with a replacement flasher, you just plug it in instead of the origonal one, the light on the dash flashes when a trailer is connected, and doen't when it is not connected.

The flasher unit SHOULD sense if there are ONE, TWO or THREE bulbs in the line.

When there are three, the flasher unit should flash the little trailer sign.

After re-reading the last set of posts I'm still not sure if my tow electrics are right? With the light board connected all external lights work, indicators, stop and tail etc - there's now 3 bulbs in the circuit.

The trailer lamp on the dash still doesn't come on. Do I or don't I need a different relay unit?

It's and 04 TD4 btw

Although the green trailer light flashes when the trailer is connected, it rarely flashes once with it not connected !!!!. As there is no self test on it when you turn on the ignition the lamp may be blown on yours. When you buy the genuine LR towbar kit, as well as the electrics, a replacement relay is supplied.
This senses the extra load and lights the trailer light in time with the indicators on the dash.
The original relay is binned.

You are required to have a warning light (or buzzer) when towing, but if you don't have a towbar, I wouldn't bother and just visually check the lights work before you set off.

Ahh, that would be it. I bought genuine trailer wiring kit, no relay included. Though it was plug and play - it still needs a relay.

I guess that's why the LR wiring kit is £19 and the LR electrics kit is lots more.

indies work OK, so they're coping with the additional load - it's just the dash warning missing.

i agree, especially as its only a cycle rack lighting bar, and there is no towbar fitted and thus no legal requirement...
