Cured 3 Amigos - handbrake Light still on?

Had the 3 Amigo's and handbrake lights on.

A new ABS sensor cured the 3 Amigo's (£40 from Ebay) , but the handbrake light remains on.

I know the handbrake system is good, as it's all new parts. The handbrake switch works fine and signals on and off as it should.

My brake fluid level switch housing was cracked some time ago when the engine noise cowel was removed. Since then, the plastic around the fluid sensor has been held on by Araldite..

Is there a quick and dirty way to verify if the sensor has been damaged? Does anyone know if the light goes off if the circuit between the 2 contacts is fully open or closed?

Lastly, anybody know where I can get a new one, in case I need one. been told the brake light will fail the MOT. Had a look but can't seem to find one online.

link the contacts together / short the cores think its a normally closed circuit which opens on a fault, sounds like the level switch is at fault if you've repaired it before.

I will check that fluid sensor tomorrow.

Still haven't found a source of a new one, anywhere on this planet. ??

One thing I wanted to mention, I replaced the mechanical plunger switch behind the footbrake on my journey to eliminate the 3 amigo's

I notice the Haynes manual says the refitting process involved depressing the footbrake and holding it in while the new switch is refitted, before slowly letting the footbrake back out.

I couldn't manage this, as I nearly broke my neck fitting the switch while upside down with my feet out the passengers window, really it's that awkward to get the leverage to twist-fit a new switch. So I don't know to what extent not refitting that mechanical plunger switch as per the manual would affect the brake light switch staying on.

I'll update as this goes along, now't wuss than unfinished threads, right? ;-)

Not that, if anything mine is set too tight, I get steep-hill full handbrake with 2 cliks of the ratchet.

'Tis a twunt to fit first time round , you need a double jointed neck and fingers like an Aye Aye Lemur!

Yes, it was the Brake Fluid Reservoir Sensor.

It is an short circuit when 'good'

A dollop of silver conductive paint was a stop-gap until I can get a new replacement. Really struggling to find one.

Might have to be a scrapyard challenge.

It might be worth looking at other types of Rover for the switch. We've got quite a few good, walk round scrappers round here freelanders are like hens teeth...

It might be worth giving Millenium motor spares a ring, they're about the only ones I know who get freelanders in.

You will probably need this, I need one too, there is just a reed switch inside, which can go faulty, but the thing with reed switched is they need a magnet to activate them, so you will have a magnet in the resoviour somewhere going up and down with the fluid, so could be worth checking this magnet is still there...

mine has an Audi part number on it, so you could try Audi or any of the VAG group, VW, Seat, etc...
