Need a bit of enlightenment. Why is it only auto box td4's have cruise control fitted ? is it possible to fit to a manual td4 ? i would have thought it unlikely that the loom was different, but can it be activated or does it need to be activated by a dealer.

Just a guess but if cruise is set at say 65 on the motorway and you start going up a hill and the revs start dropping then it would need to change down a gear, being a manual it cant do this and would get bogged down.

Both Rover 75 and MG ZT auto and manual diesels can have cruise control fitted.
It can be retrofitted and in some cases the wiring is already in place. So you just need the cruise ecu, the wheel controls and to have it activated by a dealer with a Testbook.

If the c/c can't hold the speed up a steep hill, it will disengage anyway when you depress the clutch to change down.

you can buy an after market kit to stick cruise control onto just about any vehicle.. can't remember who makes them but they're in the midlands areaish

Conrad Anderson do them.

I fitted one to my R45 - it worked well. Even managed to use spare conacts on the rotary sterring wheel coupler and mounted the controls on the wheel.

BUT if the throttle position sensor is attached directly to the pedal, (like it is on the 75) it will be a real pig to fit and you will hear the servo working as it moves the pedal.

(The 45's pedal sensor was under the bonnet)

AFAIK, cruise control was available on the TD4 ES models, both manual and auto.
