When I had the cluster out to do the matrix O rings I changed all the bulbs at the same time. I noticed that next to the bulb apertures was an indication of what they were for, the one at the bottom right had 'cruise' on it but that never lit up when using cruise, new bulb later and it still doesn't light up using cruise...is it supposed to?
Switch lights up and cruise works fine, DHSE. :)

Still not made your mind up what to do?
if i sell it.. its not much more than scrap value and i lose a shed load.. folks have said put another engine in, they arent expensive.. but thats a lot of time and effort if it dies on me like this one has.. top hat liner engines are expensive and has it been done properly? if not it could still fail
its not what i'd call a shining example of a p38.. it was never meant to be.. i feel i'm in a no win place :/

oh and i've just had a tax renewal... £295

If it is the one on the top row of push button switches, then it should light up when pressed in to show that the cruise is available. It doesn't light or extinguish when cruise is or isn't engaged.

No, that one lights up fine.
If you read my first post again, the word 'cruise' is moulded into the white plastic cover on the back of the speedo cluster, a bulb was in it which I replaced next to the cruise word , still doesn't light up and wondered if it should? Nobody else's appears to either so...dunno, row spec probably.

It's difficult I know.
Seen a few petrol 38s appear to be good on ebay/Facebook groups then break yours for donor parts if you have the room to store.
New top hat injun if yours is otherwise solid, cheaper but no donor spares.
Break it on ebay and earn quite a few quid more than selling the complete vehicle for spares or repair.
Dilemma for sure.
