Had an accident yesterday,
Not my fault - Third party turned right across my path and I could not avoid him!!

Question is the rear track rod has bent so was not driverble. The o/s/f wing took all the damage and wheel took all the damage. radius arm was pushed back which has bent the mount and the chassis has a crease in just next to the mount where some bad rust has exposed it's self.

Write off or not????

You can insist on it being repaired. Get a shiny new chassis. Or if they write it off buy back for a pittance and get another and strip it for parts ( they'd only crush it) and make a little money

depends how attached you are to it, I'd insist on repair myself, or a buy back with no category behind it, then go get it repaired myself.

have a look on here, I'm sure there's been at least 2 in a similar frame, the insurers will probably want to scrap as uneconomical repair at the least, don't be bullied by them.

It is cheaper for the insurance company to write it off, but you can insist on it being repaired. There are several threads on here where owners have insisted on repair and ended up with a shiny new galvanized chassis.

Keep turning down all offers until you are happy, the insurance company will give up in the end.

Other driver must have been using his mobile, if he failed to see your landy.

Yeah theres been several. All got theirs sorted. Rebuilt properly it can be worth lots more.

some of it comes down to loss adjusters not knowing their vehicles, and considering chassis damage ans non repairable, which in the case of a landy (and a few other motors) just isn't true, as its a replaceable component, albeit pretty expensive and labour intensive one

Do some homework on a new chassis and the likely cost of replacement. Get three quotes from Landrover specialists. Include the cost of transportation (local tow garage will do this) to the specialist from the place of rest. Do not allow yourself to be conned by the tow people, if you have the landy in a yard at present the storage charges will be paid by the Insurance. I'm lucky to have some safe off road parking. If this was being used for your work, start asking about a rental. This usually starts getting them moving. A tree surgeon had a minor bang and insisted on a four wheel drive replacement.

As has been said, the insurance will want to write it off, but I wouldn't let them, have a search, or somebody may be able to link the old threads, but there has definitely been at least of couple of similar threads with decent outcomes;);););)

As said dont get bullied into a right off!
They may offer you difference between what it was worth before and what its worth now as a scrapper saying you can keep the car and take the difference in a payout.
This will probably be lower than a repair cost to them but maybe worth consisdering depending on what they say it was worth before.
All a case of weighing it up to suit you the best and not them!
Also dont forget you need paying for your lost time, hassle and stress with being without transport and having to sort things.
Hope it works out for you

Thanks for all your answers.

Spoke to the management company today.

Third party is only trying to say that he was waiting in the middle of the road and I just hit him!!! For that I might just have to have a bad back :D

I have a eye wittness so I don't see any issues with who's liable.

They have said that the options are
A - Write off = net payment for market value
B - Write off = Net payment for market value minus 20% and I get to keep the car and repair.
C - Repaired for me at third parties cost

Either way I won't know untill they have inspected it.

Maybee I shoul push for a new chassis!!!

Definitely push for a new chassis and a galvanised one at that! :)

I'd imagine the fact you've an third party eye witness, they haven't a leg to stand on

Probably of no use to you whatsoever But alway try tp go round the back of a car that's pulled out on you. Rear end is invariable lighter and the with the weight of a landy you can usually punch thru, and spin them out of the way.. :D

The other thing that is worth remembering, that you currently have your registration number easily viewable (and photos of the incident). Just be careful what's said online

Good point - I'll behave.

Just checked some prices for galv chassis

Richards want about 1500 delivered as do Marsland.
Have to say that the richards looks better. half a mm thicker and 6mm instead of two laminated 3mm. Also Richards offer the correct crossmembers where as Marsland only offer TD5!

4x4 place want - starting at 3.5k to supply and fit a richards chassis!!
wow!!!!

Richards is thicker and will stamp your chassis ID number before galvanizing. Marshall land is just TD5 chassis (Thinner metal) modified for other engines. You will need td5 fuel tank and tow hitch hard wear

Do not rush into anything. Find my thread on 'MOT and then some'. I had loads of help from the guys on here, and ended with a satisfactory result. Just remember when dealing with insurance companies that they are not your friends (even yours) they are business that only want to earn cash.

Keep posting for advice and guidance.
