Crankshaft... or Engine Death on the M6 North.

New engine (well, used) on route to the garage as I write. They will have a look at the clutch at the same time. No sign of oil starvation, or a sump full of nuts and bolts. Looks like a plain old stress fracture.
this is how cranks snap due to bad harmonics ..its part of my job description at work seen many snapped cranks in my time

where did you purchase the damper from was it an after market ?

the easiest way to explain is that a piano has many keys to play tones and many range of frequency's
a harmomic damper has a limitation of how many frequency's it can play ... if the engine tuning has been modified or a unbalanced engine the harmonic balancer is out of range ...going back to the piano things wear so they need tunning to reach the desired frequency (not like a piano does hard work LOL )

I would also suggest dropping off a main cap and inspect the thrust bearings considering yours is a Manuel if the trust bearing are worn you have found the issue

Stressed at the thought of going back to Scotland?:rolleyes: Make sure you keep the old engine (shove it in the back), plenty of potential spares, especially as your replacement will be of unknown history (to you)

Thanks interesting - thanks for that. I'll make sure the garage check that out.

Its was an OEM that cost about 140 quid. Couldn't tell you the manufacturer I'm afraid.
