Good afternoon guys

Just serviced the td4 03plate and ive been told i need to change the crankcase breather at every service. Is this true or can it simply be cleaned and replaced?? Ive been told its on the back of the engine, but im not sure where so can anyone tell me where it is, how easy it is to change and if it does indeed need changing every time.

This picture shows the position of the valve, it's the nbr 1 with the arrow next to it, looks as two covers but in fact it's only one, kept with 4 Torx screws.

If you keep to the original breather you don't have to replace the whole housing every service, just the fabric type filter inside.

the point being that the BMW part doesn't require that, just an occasional wipe out.

although the lr part is a filter, it actually works as an oil separator. the BMW part has no filter element to block, but works just as well as an oil separator.

so you can fit the slightly more expensive BMW part once and never buy another, just check and clean, or you can replace the filter element every service, and run the risk of destroying the engine if you forget to change it and it blocks...
