Crank shaft bolt

I am at the moment renewing the timing chains on my DHSE and before I get a serios bar to shift the front crank bolt does anybody know if it a right hand or left hand thread ?

It's right handed and F tight. You have to peg the engine to stop it turning.

There is a special tool for holding the crank whilst undoing or torquing the crank bolt. It HAS to be tightened correctly or you will lose the oil pump.

It is actually a must to use the special tool LRT 12 105 to remove this nut and especially to put the new one back, because you can easily damage the woodruff key that holds the crank pulley in place.

My car has had an engine swap and it was a bit of a lash up insofar as this woodruff key was torn during the installation and eventually failed causing me a major headache.

My local LR Dealer let me loan the tool FoC about £70.00 plus to buy I think.

There are other ways I'm sure but I speak from bitter experience, I would not have known this but for the expertise on this forum

I have made up a tool which is a 8mm steel bar with 2 holes drilled in it to bolt on to the front pulley hub and wedge against the chasis and then loosen with a big breaker bar
