hi guys hoping someone can help with these issues,
1st problem i seem to have a problem with the heater, if i turn the heat control knobs to cold, the drivers side works as it should, the passenger side still blows out slightly warm air, I've tried replacing the heater control valve under the bonnet (new unit fitted), i've swapped the temp sensors behind the heater controls (swapped them left to right etc) also had the aircon re-gassed and still the problem persists. is it possible i have a heater flap problem? and where would i look to find that?

2nd issue not so much a problem as such but i have a 4.4v8 FFRR with the bmw m62 engine, when i start the car cold the exhaust fumes excessively smell of unburnt fuel, so much so if i have the window down i can smell the fumes in the cab if the window is down, i would expect slight fuel small to the fumes when cold but not quite so much, does anyone else experience this?

Over the last few weeks, mine has been starting off from cold running rich.....I initially put this down to a dodgy Lambda sensor....but I am not sure if they are active during engine start and initial warm up....

Could be dribbly injectors!

Do you run LPG by chance?

Possibly secondary air pump not working/ valve stuck? As I understand it on cold start the secondary air pump is designed to essentially increase airflow through the exhaust after combustion has taken place in order to apparently burn of excess fuel before the cat in order to reduce emissions and help warm the cat up.

Very good call, I do remember when I first bought the car the engine management light kept coming on, when I had the lpg system serviced they said fuel trims on petrol & lpg were out, but it was on the weak side because of an air leak. I think I found it, with the pipe from the air filter to the throttle not located properly.

I have seen that airpump cause EML problems on other BMW's, my mum had a 523i touring the pump had failed on and it stank of petrol at startup until it was fixed. I don't recall what was done to fix the problem (if the pump had actually failed or not etc) but I know it made a big difference when it was sorted. I have an N62B48 in my 650i which I think the secondary air system was removed for the 4.8 version, in the earlier N62B44 (similar in some ways to the M62B44) they had a similar system and it causes problems.

Worth a check I know the lpg guy set it to run slightly richer on lpg to keep the light off, he did say on petrol I would get the eml as well but have had no issues, but will check out air pump, wherever that is located

I don't have smoke at cold start up but it smells a bit wiffy, I don't have LPG and I don't have any of the secondary air pump kit if that helps
