The VCU needs to be in line with the centre line of the body. The bearings need to be parallel to the VCU drum faces which makes them exactly 90° to the VCU shafts.

ok, putting new bearings on, how far home am I tapping them, as there is a little recess between where bearing sits and where washer sits
am I guessing right I only tap it on upto the recess

You tap them down to the flange on the shaft. You can't over push them as they hit the flange.
Make sure you only hit the inner race, not the outer race or the rubber seal.

excellent, sorted those, just gotta pick up front half of shaft as had the x bearing changed, then mount it all back on and line up the bearings right,

ive also seen there seems to be a fill and drain plug on the rear diff, I thought they didn't have one, either way, if so ill be changing diff oil. whats the best for a 150k unit.

Someone might have added a drain to the diff. I have added one before now.
Oil spec is 80w90 mineral oil.
