i was disappointed with it, i always watch the prog but although they did show people who paid to use a field instead of just ripping up the lanes, why did they come across as a bunch of pricks? "I just got a cheap motor, smashed it up and i'll come back next week", wtf? Its a bad image for offroaders in my books.

if they ban greenlaning, then they should ban ALL access to that lane be it horse, bike, foot or wheelchair, its open country so should be open to all (responsibly of course, which i think most greenlaners are)

I suspect in the long term 4x4's will be banned from a lot of lanes. There's a lane near me that I've used for dog walking for many years, it was also used by horses. Now its closed to everyone because of recent damage by 4x4's, it's just impassable now (even for 4x4's). Goes to show that a few irresponsible muppets can give us all a bad name :(

Just watched it and didn't feel it was that one sided, they showed the farmers field with legal activity but in all honesty the bikes seemed to come off worse overall in the program.

As for the daft woman who was talking about the family who will 'never' return to the country, yes it was a bad experience, but tbh if that stops you coming to the country then you need to stay in the city for everyone's benefit.

Yes that was the point where i said "stop hamming up love, you've said your bit so dont exaggerate", i cant believe anyone would never return to the countryside just because of one bad day out, nonsense and pure dramatisation for the tv.

Yes, i did think the bikers came over slightly worse and i can quite believe it as bikes get knicked and trashed quite a lot and if your'e gonna trash a bike then you might as well do it where your'e not gonna get caught.

I have seen greenlaners out cutting back overgrowth and generally keeping thing passable, anyone ever sen a walker or horserider doing same??

What did you make of the Countryfile report on greenlaning and offroading?
Seemed once again to be slightly biased? No sign of polite, gentile, greenlaning that a lot of people love to do.

Countryfile link 18 minutes in in anyone wants to see/recap.

Funny how they neglected to mention the thousands of miles of bridleways/footpaths/etc that off roaders aren't allowed to use.

Overall I didn't think it was too bad, but they should have highlighted that we're already banned from most of the countryside already.

If the ramblers/horse riders etc don't like vehicles then they should walk on one of the massive majority of lanes etc that are closed to motor vehicles instead of walking on a road.

Wasn't that rambling dude driving his landy down a green lane while he was being interviewed?

I agree that some people give the whole pastime a bad name, but that's true for all walks of life.

As an aside, the Bridleways Association does quite a lot of hard work, mainly volunteer, to try to re-open closed Bridleways and to revert ROW that are now only footpaths etc... In a lot of areas there are no bridleways to ride on, or they are in accessible due to lack of maintenance or because they lead from mainroad to mainroad and no horseman/woman worth their salt would risk the lives of their horses (let alone their own) trying to access them. Not everyone who has a horse has access to transport to box up the horse to take it elsewhere to ride it in the 'freedom' of the countryside, nor can they afford to keep the nags somewhere where there is an arena to ride in. Sometimes hacking around the lanes is the only option. Where I lived in Cornwall the off road riding was virtually non-existent, here it is fabulous - the irony is that I don't have a riding horse now, I did then!

Just went on bbc to watch it and I have to say it was ridiculously biased. I think most of the so called "greenlaners" were actually inbred. It was a deliberate attack on off roaders and they chose those people on purpose to make us look bad.
