Hi

The lip around the roof seems to be attached to the roof but I can't figure out how.

Does anybody know how it is attached, welded/glued or something else? I dont think its part of the roof because the roof has seems where as this bit doesn't.

Its the bit that catches the water.

Thanks in advance

The inner bit is where the sides bolt to the roof and the outer bit is the gutter to carry water run off and securing roof rails/racks. Both essential parts I may add. Also provide rigidity to the roof structure...

As said above, it's the gutter.

On early vehicles, it was a separate Galvanised Steel part, sandwiched between the roof panel and the side panels, when they were bolted together.

On later vehicles, it's as shown in your pictures, an Aluminium pressing that's spot-welded to the roof panel.

.

Ah so it's spot welded on. Now I know what I'm looking for. I couldn't see any other way it could be attached but I thought I would check first.
Cheers

I guess the title should have been "How is this part of the roof joined" and not can you identify it. Though thanks for the abuse... :p
