Core Plug Leak/Replacement TD4.

Freelander 1, 2002, TD4.

Investigating what I though was a thermostat housing leak, turns out the leak is a pin hole in a core plug situated just above the thermostat housing.
Looks fairly inaccessable and only viewable via a mirror!
Cannot find a diagram showing the core plug.
Is this replaceable without removing major components, like the cylinder head?
Any advice?

Much appreciated, wouldn't want this to be the end of the old girl, we have been together since new and done 280k miles together!.....

Ultimately, worst case is an engine swap, dunno how much that would cost, but the most it would take a garage is 2 days. I suppose that is the time it would take to remove and refit you're engine and replace the core plug while it is out (if the engine needs removing to do it). Lot of money to spend on an engine that's done 280k miles.

Fairly handy with the tools, but don't have the lifting kit to do an engine out!
Going to try cleaning it up and using epoxy metal putty! But even then, it's all by feel!

If there is no knowledge of the core plugs on here, it might be worth getting a price from a garage.

The mechanic at work always amazes me at how simple he can make what appears a really complicate job. They might look at it in a different way and maybe shifting a bit or jacking up the engine or summat might give access.

If they say its a big job - then a bit of splodge sounds like a plan
