eek see what you mean about the flaremaster 2 :D

its probably worth the money though as it will last and its probably around 2- 2.5 hours of garage labour round here.

Well, that's the way I look at it. if you're saving money by doing things yourself then what you save on labour charges can go to buy the tool, can't it? Then you've learned something and have the tool to do the next one with, so it'll be even faster and more efficient.

absolutely, totally agree, even if a garage just did the back axle pipe, with bleeding etc I bet it wouldn't be far off the price of the kit.

So you get payback almost immediately and your saving from the next job on and that's not accounting for the value of the experience and knowledge you have gained.

with the cost of labour becoming so expensive - and I don't mean they aren't worth the money, salaries and overheads go up and have to be passed on - doing things yourself makes more and more sense

the 270 is great too. it's more of a bench workhorse, where the flaremaster 2 is small enough to use it with the lines still attached to the vehicle; which is well useful, esp if you are only repairing sections.

if i saw a good priced 270 i'd snap it up, you can get more dies for it iirc too

Not really .... i have a cheapo silverline and it has done my landy , my frontera , my mates rav 4 and some sections on my van some on copper some in cupro nickle HOW EVER treat it as a bench top tool dont be trying to use it under a car upside down in tight confines.

i have half an eye on ebay and forums for a flaremaster for the future though......

this one looks reasonably priced c.f. some I have seen, might push the button on it

Sykes Pickavant Flaremaster2 Handheld Brake Flare Kit 3/16"/4.75mm 02729500 | eBay

don't know whether the description is right though, this one only seems to do 3/16 in and 4.75 mm the others do a wider range

fm2 has an optional 6mm die set you can buy. the other ones you have seen probably include that. usually use 1/4 for clutch pipes.

that one above contains one 3/16 kit (which is 4mm).

you can also buy a beefier ram for steel pipes.. but tbh if it's a one off i used the ram it came with and it did steel nps.

may go ahead and buy that one, all I need for starters is the 3/16 I think, I am also thinking of doing that clutch remote bleed mod that is in the series how to section sometime, but that is another one of the post back on the road tasks, assuming nothing happens to the clutch between now and mot time of course. so I could always get the 1/4 die later if I ever get round to doing the mod.

or buying single predone pipes are cheap enough.

sounds like a plan :)

yes but where is the fun in that :D

I would like to be able to do all this stuff myself and maybe move onto our more complex cars, had a look on the chevy, it has two possibly three different diameter brake pipes and the ones going down from the reservoir cylinder etc are spiralled, so if I do ever move on to that it will be a while.
