Went to change the plastic core plugs today with brass ones however, the plonker who previously owned my Disco has obviously broken it then tried to glue it back on. Any ideas on how one would remove this?
have a replacement at the ready and then centre punch/chisel and hammer to tap it around.

Cheers, you two. Already have the new one to be fitted. Didn't want to do any damage as I've never opened them. Who in their right mind would try to glue it back on:scratching_chin:

Drill two opposing holes, stick in a pair of long nose pliers, stick a tommy bar or screwdriver through the pliers jaws and unscrew.

Had another go at this today; been a few weeks I know but I've got health problems so I can only get out to it every so often. Anyway, the person of unknown parentage who 'glued' the top on has actually filled the hole with some hardening compound & glued the screw top back on. Now I'm left with the remains of said compound inside where the screw should be.
Any ideas as to how I would approach this? I'm now in the position that if I actually get to start the bugger water is pouring out like a fountain

I'm not sure it's plastic but, scraping it away all the 'bits' will fall inside. I'm guessing that won't be a good thing? What is the part called anyway & are they easy to replace/remove?

Thermostat housing - remove top 2 bolts and undo the bottom 2 bolts 3 turns - it just lifts off the gasket

its simpler just to remove elbow covering thermostat to get the bits out ,it may well need chipping out

Thanks, looks kinda tight to get underside bolts out. What kinda idiot would pack it instead of just replacing the plug though? More to the point, why?

its simple to undo the 2 elbow bolts,not the whole housing ,you dont need a gasket either when refitting ,its useful to check coolant level usingf bung ,it should overflow ,level in expansion tank isnt necessarily the same as engine

Thanks, James. I was also cleaning the earth cables because its not starting without a jump start although its a new battery. Anyway, wife was starting it when I was checking the jump cables, engine started & water shot out the housing like a volcano! Should be a good thing to replace the coolant.
