Coolant hose kits....which ones???

Hi guys!

My td5 90 has started to weep through the bottom 2 rad hoses when it gets nice and hot after/during heavy towing, and I guess its finally time to renew the lot for peace of mind as they are all 24 years old and I don't want one to go pop on me.

I've done a load of online searches and the silicone hose kits seem to be more favorable and more durable than the standard rubber equivalent. Roose motor sport do a complete kit for the 10p but at at cost of over £600 when including new stainless hose clips. I know britpart do kits but am slightly hesitant to spend good money on something that may let me down. Having spoken to my local Landy parts supplier he said the new rubber hoses aren't up to the same quality as the originals...

Does anyone know of a good make/supplier or is it just I need to stop being tight and buy the good quality kit? I use the Landy to make a living, everyday towing or winching trees over etc etc so I don't mind spending to keep it going. Any advice gladly received!

On my 200TDI i used the ebay cheapy silicone hose kits, been no issues so far, they must have been on there a few years now.
Cable tie the old hoses you remove to the chassis just in case you need them, mainly for peace of mind.

Thanks mate! I guess a silicone hose is a silicone hose, whoever makes it!

I recall the multiple fibre layers are the most important in a greatly constructed silicone hoses.
There is also differences in silicone hose construction if you use the hoses for different fluids or air.

I am sure there are better quality ones, but I also have a no name silicone intercooler hose on my D3, been on there for 8 years.
As my Fil would say to me, its not a fcuking racing car!

Just gone and ordered a full set of silicone hoses and stainless screw type fixings, including all the ancillary bits, figured they are all getting old, it's about due a coolant refresh so mayaswell do it all in one go. Bet the rad gives up after I put new coolant in, that's what happened when I replaced the water pump! gotta love em!

you gonna change the stat at same time?

we've used silicone hose(i think they sell on ebay aswell) and the hoses seem ok
i made my intercooler hoses out of their std bends 10yrs ago and all are still good
