Since I have had the current Petrol D5 for about a year and a half / 10K miles, I had to top up about 2L of coolant. I have asked LR, and they say it is normal. Is it really? There have been no issues or lights coming up.

Has anyone had the same problem?

Engine type/size/year?

I would go for an independent check, nothing should use that much coolant.
Check the filler cap is correct and any hoses are tight. You can buy a dye that you put in system and any leaks show up under special light.
After that a pressure check would be in order.

You do surprise me !
My 24 year old Mondeo barely uses any, never needed to top up.
And my Series 2A doesn't lose any, mind you that does not have to work very hard.

As mentioned, block composition is completely different to older cars. There'll be acceptable tolerances of porosity.

By all means, check for leaks. Thermostat housings can fail, as can hose clamps. Not beyond realms of possibility that one of the many hose clamps has not quite been seated properly at factory.

Mileage isn't always equated with usage - as mentioned above there is an acceptable tolerance, this will have a range. Additionally, you're comparing apples with pears, not just in engine design and manufacturing but in fuel type, petrol engines have a more 'open' stratification in the casting, together with getting hotter, quicker, all of which will have a bearing on coolant consumption.
Talk to any dealer tech of pretty much any marque, you'll get the same level of coolant consumption across the board. I have worked for several major & minor brands, without exception, they all 'use' coolant (and oil) to some extent.
Coolant tends to be consumed more than oil due to it's lower viscosity and vapour point, but ultimately, both will be absorbed into the engine block, particularly in it's early life.

Was your XC90 dealer serviced? the XC90 T5's I worked on definitely consumed coolant - and were topped up at service.

Also, LR say it's normal - don't you think (given the generally held opinion of dealers) that if they were given an opportunity to say 'we'll check it out for money (either yours or LR's warranty) they'd pass up that chance?
