CONVOY for HEROES world record attempt, Gaydon, Easter 2011

Caravans welcome, although not in the actual world record attempt at Gaydon ... can't think why? :D

Don't forget, clubs or individuals are still needed to lead these convoys - any takers?

Booking should have been open by now, but been delayed as the organisers are still negotiating with Gaydon to get the camping fees down. Currently they are £13 a night (which personally I think is OTT), the organisers are going for £8, so maybe it'll end up in the middle? We'll see.

The caravan will only be towed in the mini convoy to the camping site... and then I'll hook up again when it's time to go home! :)

As for leading the convoy, i'd be happy to stick the destinations in my satnav from Huntingdon onwards, of course, but driving all the way out to the start point might be a little excessive, especially with a caravan!
 
Will get mine in the post tomorrow. Hope the stickers don't pull my paint off as there is every chance. Still might be the excuse I need to respray.
 
The Guinness World Record™ Parade is for Land Rovers ONLY. Land Rovers built overseas, such as early Santanas, Perenties and Minervas are allowed in. Re-bodied Land Rovers such as the Ibex, Wildcat, Bowler and Dakar are not. Nothing personal, but the adjudicators at GWR are not necessarily Land Rover enthusiasts and we do not want any disqualification on the grounds that, “it isn’t a Land Rover.”

Does my blue bobtail still qualify (avatar and in the pictures in my profile)...to my mind its a Land Rover, technically not re-bodied, just modified?:confused::confused:
 
Looks like Easter, and not May/June is the new target to have my 2A on the road for then! :) I'll be sending the form off at the end of the month, really looking forward to this, and it will be a very good maiden voyage for my old Landy, especially as it's ex-military.

I've emailed a couple of questioned off to them about the costs, mainly the £20 per landy or per person for the record attempt and also about ordering additional t-shirts and what the chest sizes are so I'll post these up when I get a reply.

My biggest thought is, do I take my disco covered in mud like it normally is or do I clean it and make it shine?

Dirty !.

I,ve also emailed about costs.

I thought it was £ 12 per adult and £ 20 for entrance to the " parade ".

But I did read on their website that the £ 20 " parade " fee gives the driver admission to the museum.

I sent a cheque for £ 44, ( me and the Mrs ), just to be on the safe side, as I think the 500 spaces will be gone pretty quick !.

Yeah I also sent a cheque for £44 for me and the mrs. I hope I sent enough. Not bothered if the £20 also gets the driver into the museum as it's a fantastic charity and I will be donating and buying more there.
 
thing is...... when the parade starts at 3pm or so, with a briefing at say 12 noon, and what with all the preparation, are you gonna have time to look around the museum same-day?

You could always drive back on another day, I suppose... presumably you can turn up on multiple days without paying the camping fee.......

Joe1972 - bobtail RR's are fine. Guinness World Records™ will recognise it as a Rangie, whereas a Dakar they just wouldn't understand.

Clean or dirty? Take your pick, there will be plenty of both there. As long as the number plates can be seen (and windows of course - I'm ahead of you) it can be covered in mud from top to bottom!

Prices - when the prestigious venue of the Heritage Motor Centre was first acquired, the costs of day admission and camping were I have to say too high. The organiser was aware of this too, so returned to Gaydon to strike a better deal.

This meant the Entry Forms were delayed, but the outcome was that before any bookings issued (so nobody missed out), the Entry Forms included an all-weekend camping deal, and, instead of £12 adult admission per day Sat and Sun, the £12 admission now covered two days ... obviously saving £12. Unfortunately it will still cost £12 for just the Sunday, but that's life! Better this way than no reduction at all, at least the costs are now acceptable.

Mini-convoys - At present loads of offers are coming in for leading the mini-convoys, but only two from the suggested start points at the furthest locations. Thanks for instance from the guy in Huntingdon, but as there is still a fair amount of time, we shall hold fire on any decisions as obviously the coastal starts will take priority.

as the guy from Huntingdon, I will say "no problem"......... please note, however, that if I really am going to end up leading the convoy from Huntingdon, please give me enough notice to get the waypoints into my satnav (i.e. a few days)!! :D

As you say though, let's hope for someone closer to the coast first!
