Contemplating a 2001 Freelander 1.8 LPG

So, do you think 70k miles is okay for it? Bearing in mind we will only ever add a few thousand on to it as it will be a second car which does no more than 2k miles a year.

And how much would you say we should try and haggle off them if we were to go for it? Ideally £500 cheaper would bring it into line with the LPG but is that unrealistic/unlikely?

Acceptable if it has a proper service history, mileage is right for it's age.
 
Agree with JonFre. 70K should be OK provided it has a good history. The TD4 I just bought has 90K on it, but has a nice complete service file, it is also an X reg and was a lot less than £5K, but it's not an auto or an ES for that matter.

Parkers suggests £4,160 from an independant dealer at average mileage of 80K, so price for 71K is probably a few hundred up. However, in these troubled times i'd be surprised if many dealers are shifting as many cars as they would like (however shiny!), so if you're 'holding folding' - offer him 4 grand, they can only say no.... :D

It has a full service history and all of the services (bar one) have been done at main Land Rover dealers. It had a complete new gearbox fitted at 50k so that can only be a good thing, right?

He claims the price would be £5300 if I upgraded to the 3 year warranty. How far do you think I'd get if I offered him £4500 including the 3 year warranty?:cool:

I understand why you are going for older because of the Car Tax, but surely if you can find a newer model (02) for around the same money then it will last longer (and probably have lower mileage).
I bought mine 6 months ago, 03MY (52 plate) for £5500 from ebay and it was immaculate with lots of LR extras.
 
Dunno what your problem is ... all freelanders are wonderful and have no relibility issues. The dont depriciate and they only need refilling with fuel every 12 million miles....tax is free and you dont need to mot them either because nothing every goes wrong on them....they were designed by da vinci and tuned by mozart


just buy one .....you cant go wrong

It's going to be a second car for use around and about town to replace the Modus which does just that. It's more practical and a bit more fun. We already have a Discovery 3 TDV6 used for serious off-roading and everything else one might feel the Freelander lacks. We've done a lot of research into the car and know a lot of people who have owned series of Freelanders for years and have nothing but praise for them. They might not have everything but it's a second car and it's a runaround, it needn't have it all.
I appreciate they have a dodgy reliability record but I know that they arn't all bad. This forum was recommended to me and so I thought I would seek some further expert advice and help with the particulars and technicalities of our purchase.

Hi,

As a previous owner of a 1.8i Freelander I would just stay totally clear from it! The engine was a problem, the build quality was a problem, the electrics was a problem, the steering was another problem and it almost got be killed two weeks ago. I'm actually trying no remember why I put up with it for so long!
