Considering an expensive Classic...

Classics don't have a spare wheel well, thats why they put em in the boot. Never seen one with a donut tank fitted where the spare should go but I wouldn't say its impossible.

Now you just talking soft!

The 'spare wheel space' as I said is a vertical side mount in the rear. You can set a donut tank verticality... I had one.

Donut tank sounds good to me. Can you get ones that hold the jam-filled variety or does it have to be plain/iced 'ring' donuts?

When I was looking I good annoyed with all the tanks in the boot. It looks a mess and uses space. Mine came with twin 40L tanks where the original petrol tank was and a smaller petrol tank in the rear inner wing.
To me this is a much more acceptable way to do it.
Range is a bit short mind - 200 miles off 55 litres of gas.

I got a soft dash LSE for that money in May - I imagine now isn't a good time to buy 4x4 as summer isn't a good time to buy soft tops!

I agree - there's definitely some winter & snow tax on 4x4 prices at the moment. However, I need it to tow a car trailer, and i'd rather find a good one now that'll be good for the next 2-3 years.

Just spoke to the owner - reckons the only welding it needed for MoT was to the rear of the front nearside inner arch. I'll check everywhere VERY closely then.

Well, I've been to see it......

HELLO THIS RANGE ROVER IS IN ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS CONDITION, HAVING HAD RANGE ROVER'S FOR MANY YEARS THIS ONE IS THE BEST BY FAR THAT I HAVE SEEN.

All I can say is that if that's the best Rangie he's seen, he either hasn't seen another one or does a roaring trade as a bull**** merchant. (I'll come back to that last bit later).

The rear bumper is bolted on straight through to the alloy panels, the boot floor is ropey, the inside bottom edge of the rear tailgate will be lucky to see out this winter, the front inner wings will resemble Emmental cheese in around the same length of time, the exhaust has been crushed in a few places and there's a huge lump of exhaust putty on the o/s downpipe, the LPG filler has disappeared somewhere behind the bumper, the o/s/r arch pulls away from the inner shell, the n/s/f tyre has some seriously odd wear to the outer edge (other 3 were fine with even wear and lots of tread) and the roof is painted matt black (although large sections of paint on the roof appear to be lifting and peeling).

THE ENGINE AND GEARBOX IS FIRST CLASS. IT HAS LPG FITTED. IT HAS ALL THE VOGUE REFINEMENTS AND COMES WITH A BRAND NEW MOT.

Shame he couldn't be arsed to at least have some LPG in the tank to prove that it works. The engine sounds like it's been run without oil, the gearbox wasn't tested as by this point i'd decided to walk on. He stated he knew nothing about how the LPG actually worked, nor did he know anything about paperwork to go with it (LPG certificates etc).

Of course, he could have been bull****ting - highly likely given that the Range Rover is for sale on his garage forecourt (Trader status not mentioned anywhere in the ad, nor on the phone - I was told to go into the village where the car was and i'd see it on the side of the road).

Took all of 5 minutes to figure all that out and get in the car and go.

Bit of a shame in some ways, the panels are all straight, the interior (aside from the boot carpet) is tidy, and the wheels are nice. Probably all of £500's worth in total as a hack to scrap in spring.

I said I haven't SEEN a donut fitted to the side but WOULDN'T say its IMPOSSIBLE.

I have owned a Classic and know they have a flat boot floor. I know that because it was rotten and I'm better with a spanner than a welder so I crushed the rot infested piece of **** and got a P38.

Don't get so touchy :boxing:... with regards swapping a classic for a p38 some would argue that it was a backward move. I don't know if it is or isn't as I am guilty of the same thing myself.

The classic has something about it that still pulls me to them, but the P38 is just so much more comfy for everyday use. But I must confess to feeling a little venerable off road to damage (or should I say the financial implications).

Gotta admit, I'm over Classics but still got the P38 bug.
As for off road, just buy a 300 Quid Disco TDi and wreck it, have a look at my pics lol.
