Hi, I am about to buy my first landrover and am really confused. It is a 2001 Defender 90 registered on the 1/3/2001. I am confused because the vehicle looks like a county with windows in the back...windows in the roof...seats in the back and trim...landrover alloys and red metallic paint etc. What confuses me is that the logbook lists it as a Light Goods Vehicle which i presume means it is commercial tax. It says on the logbook that it is a utility. I have rang the dvla and it is 185 a year tax.

Do you think it is a converted van / hard top although it doesnt look like it?

I apologise if i am asking a newbie question.

There's loads of good conversions, and quite a lot of mistakes at registration. You can tell by the VIN number what it is (you'll gave ter google it coz i can't remember what they all mean) - or is it in the Haines manwell?

private light goods is the term used for all cars and "light goods"
mine is a van type 90 (56 plate) and mine says the same on the reg docs and pay the same tax

As with the above, my french saloon car (spits) is private light goods. Just about everything under 3500kg is PLG and can actually go higher.

No all the same tax. They call them light goods and I think all defenders are utility by nature of the vehicle. £185 is what it would be if it was van sides or county.

I wouldn't even think about it, as long as your happy you can tax it for the same then panic not.

Someone said the post 2001 road tax for lannies is jacking up to £400! Anyone heard of that one?

Depends how it is seen as a commercial van don't worry as a car watch out
