P38A Confirmation my accumulator is toast please

When I viewed Duchess a few months back before purchase, one press on the brake pedal made the abs pump run rather than the expected 4 or more. I finished bleeding the brakes yesterday, as per the workshop manual, all 3 on the master cylinder, cycling the pump when requested etc. I've done it twice actually just incase.
The pump still runs after one brake press. Also, and this might be normal but I'll mention it, the fluid level was about 10/15mm higher this morning than yesterday but drops back to the max level and the pump ran for , dunno, 20secs before stopping when the ign was turned on.

Pump should run every 4th press. When it gets to 2 presses is time for a new accumulator.

The level reads over full when the system is depressurised, dropping to max as it pumps up to full pressure

So the pump will run every morning even with a good accumulator? Or are they both symptoms of a deaded accumulator?
 
The system bleeds down internally when not in use. If there is any air still left in the system by chance it can still pressurize prematurely. Once fully charged a good accumulator will store enough power for 4 presses of the pedal. If less, the accumulator is diddled.....
The level should drop to the max line once the pump has charged the system and will return to a high level when the system has decharged.....

A Google shows island just about the cheapest £150 odd, only a couple of quid between the usual suspects. Unless anyone knows of cheaper?
 
Found it Alan but those prices are no more, possibly cheaper abroad/EU but they would take too long or were out of stock. £152 summut from island so I've ordered one, been an expensive week, just had 4 new tyres fitted as well. :rolleyes:.
 
I've only got that accumulator to do, mesh for the plenum, remove the running boards, possibly cut out the footwell plugs and solder then I think I'm done.
Oh autobox/diffs/transfer box oil levels, grease ujs, fit new tow sockets then I think I'm done, ready for the mot.

Change the autobox oil if it hasn't been done recently and as Henry-b says, check the bolts are tight on the valve block.

Anywhoo, Ive got the filter kit ready for the box but I've no idea if the box is ok and won't until MOT day, same with the transfer box and diffs, so my plan is to top up if needed, test drive, and if all good get her back in the garage and renew all oils, except the engine cos that's already been done.

Anywhoo, Ive got the filter kit ready for the box but I've no idea if the box is ok and won't until MOT day, same with the transfer box and diffs, so my plan is to top up if needed, test drive, and if all good get her back in the garage and renew all oils, except the engine cos that's already been done.
He said it a while back.. while you've got the sump off the box, check the valve block isn't loose

When you drop the sump on the gearbox you will see the valve block, make sure the mounting bolts are tight.;)

Yes the Torx bolts that secure the valveblock to the gearbox come loose, I can almost guarantee yours will be loose being a diesel, I've even had one where there were 2 bolts sat in the pan! ;)
Shifts will improve and longevity of the box will be guaranteed.
