Cheers Marmaduke. Never had a 4x4 so after driving the one belonging to a colleague at work, I was hooked. So hooked in fact that I'm thinking of also getting an old Defender 90 pick up to really tart up.

So which one do you have? How long have you had it and what mods, upgrades, if any have you done?

As for getting under your skin, all I've been doing for the past three months, since I was bitten by the bug, is look on eBay, autotrader, carandclassic for one. Then the work colleague decided to sell his and we struck a deal.

Now been looking on Paddocks, Exmoor Trim etc for some goodies. Will get these after I have it re-sprayed either black or a dark metallic grey.

Mine is a 90, mod wise I changed the axles for 24 spline ones after I wrapped it around a telegraph pole, swapped the old 19j engine for a 300tdi as the 19j was goosed and put windows and insulation on it to make it more comfortable to drive. Most of the stuff I've done is just replacing / upgrading worn parts. It's very capable for what I want to use it for and I can't see any point in sticking bling crap on it that never gets used like winches and mayhoosive lifts but each to their own.
What have you got in mind?

I've bought this K plate 200Tdi from a work colleague for £5,300. Mechanically its sound as it's got new suspension, bushes, galvanised chassis and a new bulkhead. Two bits need doing; it needs a new rear door at some stage in the future and there's a small area that needs welding, in the next six months, to the rear offside wheel arch which he's shown me. Externally it's got a winch, original steel rims but also, as you can see from the pic in the avatar, wider rims and tyres. The seats are in good condition and he's fitted a tray in the middle. It's been soundproofed at the front and there's rubber chequer plate on the rear floor. He's giving me loads of spare bits he's got for it such as additional lamps for both front and rear light bars but the main issue is the paint. As I said I'll get I re-sprayed but after that the only thing I'll do as far as bling is concerned is replace the external wheel arches as they've got some damage to them. Just arranged this afternoon that we'll sort out the collection for the week of the 21st Oct and then looking forward to some great fun.

Which of the online spares/accessory websites do you use? I've found Paddocks who look to be good and also who do you insure yours with and how much is it for fully comp? I know it depends on your postcode and how many years no claims you have but thought you might give me some idea.

There's a downloadable parts list in the Defender section so I use that and shop around but I live approx half way between Paddocks and Craddocks and working in Lichfield Craddocks is only 25 mins away from work so I'll usually call in there if it's something I need quickly.

Insurance wise I pay around £200 including breakdown cover which I no longer need as it's covered through my bank as well so should be around £170ish with Adrian Flux but mine's only got three doors and three seats so I would expect yours to be a bit more, drop Jordan a pm in the insurance section and see what they come back with..

As for paint, mine gets off roaded so it'll only get scratched anyway. I'm in Wales in a couple of weeks and I can't wait
