Hi,
Does anyone have any ideas on what might be causing the problem on my P38 diesel, when i go to start it in the morning from cold, i turn the key to find all the warning lights etc light up except the one to tell me the plugs are heating up, by switching the key on and off many times(anywhere between 30 to 40) i can get the warning light on to tell me they are working, and once the cycle has finshed it starts no problem, i can turn it off after a min or so and the glow plugs heat up as they should, any thoughts would be appreciated, thanks

hi njh,
where do i start looking for the relays? i take it they're all under the bonnet, just a case of locating the one that controls the glow plugs?

Hi bigend,
I would suggest you get a copy of RAVE if you are going to do your own work on your P38. Even if you arent its still a very useful and interesting thing to have. It also contains the electrical troubleshooting manual which lists every connector locaton and component location on the vehicle.

Get RAVE from either of the two sources below...

Anyway, on to your problem. As suggested I would guess at the glow plug relay. Just checking RAVE the relay is attached to the side of the engine management ECU. This is a page taken from RAVE

I think, from reading the ETM in RAVE that the relay is attached to the control assembly and that you can change just the relay. I have never had to do it so dont know. Please report back what you find. I guess it should be possible to just replace the relay.
